Seems like i'm not getting fuel (searched)
I've done a lot of searching and haven't found a straight answer on the topic. my fuel gauge hasnt been working for about a year, but the low fuel light still comes on at about a gallon and a half left in the tank. now, you can flame me all you want, but would the fuel sending unit going out cause no fuel being sent to the engine? I havent been working on rotaries very long, so i'm taking the name of the part literally. i'm assuming that fuel pump alone controls the fuel sent to the injectors and the sending unit just monitors the amount in the gas tank?
The reason i ask is my car (88 T2) has been acting like it ran out of gas. done a lot of searching so i'll be testing some other things tomorrow, was just wondering if the sending unit might be the culprit. i'm not thinking its flooded because the car was running when it started sputtering. i have however been able to smell fuel on some cold starts, but it goes away as soon as the engine starts to warm up. and warm starts have never been a problem. i tried running some fuel system cleaner along with some fresh gas from a different gas station maybe thinking i just got some bad gas, but that hasnt changed anything. now it just wont start
any additional help or tips i can get would be greatly appreciated as this car is my daily driver. thanks in advance -Andy
only mods are a streetport, series 5 turbo with ported wastegates and a k&n

sorry, no more bumps. everything was redone about a year ago when the new engine was put in, i'm sure its due for a tuneup but everything has been working fine so far. only had to swap the starter due to a coolant leak i had a while back but thats all since been fixed. not sure if new injectors were used when the swap was done or the fuel pump for that matter. whats the easiest way to check the pump? just sucks cause i wont have a place to take the uim off to check the injectors and all that till next week. but if theres any way i could get a list of things to check and how to check them while i'm in there that would be the greatest help.
other than that all i've been able to check so far is the fuel in the tank and make sure that that wasnt the problem. thanks again

ANY more help would be greatly appreciated. i'm really needing to get this fixed by at least tuesday so my timeline is short. i'd like to think i'm very mechanically inclined, i'm just still learning the car. i've done all the work on it since the engine swap myself which hasnt been a ton. but i used to work on my old n/a all the time for fun. just need to know what to look at and how to look at it so i'm not just wasting my time

read up and down that thread earlier, and it doesnt seem to really relate much if the sending unit doesnt really affect the actual ability to send fuel. as that seems to be my problem currently. the car acted like it ran out of gas when it died and only started a couple times since then, but only for about 2-3 seconds. now it just seems like nothing is getting through. i'm guessing maybe the pump, but i'm steering more towards maybe the fpr or injectors?

You can download the factory service manual from teamfc3s: http://www.teamfc3s.org/main/factory_service_manual
That should help you diagnose and familiarize yourself with the fuel system.
How old are your spark plugs? Our plugs normally don't last long and foul a lot earlier than normal cars'.

i'll have to check them out tomorrow. i would have thought that if they went out i would have smelled a lot more fuel from flooding. but at this point i'm not ruling anything out till i can actually get in there and take some things apart. thanks so much for the replies, i'll post back soon on my findings
