Seat covers
Seat covers
I've got a 90 Conv with the dark blue leather seats. I want to get the seats recovered and I have heard of people buying covers to do it yourself. I would love to keep the leather and I do know it's expensive. Hoping you guys can give me places to purchase OEM or close covers. pics would be great too.
Second that, we've had group buys in the past. Great product and fit, if you want to keep leather and are up to a winter diy project you can get it done in a weekend. PM me if you need any details, they use the pics of my car when they auction a set on Ebay.
I took some pics of the work in progress and completed.

You want to work in a warm place to soften the leather. Keep squeezing the foam and pulling to get the leather seams to sit in the right place. Then connect the new hog rings. A second set of hands might help in some spots. Don't use any tools or you will rip the leather. Be patient, it's a job that will give you arthritis.
Depending on the condition of your foam you will have some wrinkles along the bolsters but these will get better as you sit on the seats and the leather ages. From pics I've seen in RX-7 books there were some wrinkles there when new.
The headrests are tough, be careful when x cutting the holes for the posts. You have to remove the screw that holds the non-adjustable headrests in. I had to drill out and replace.
The new leather is thinner and softer, more places are vinyl than original. I use Lexol once a month to keep it conditioned.
This is also a good time to shampoo your rugs, clean up the seat tracks and touch up any rust on the tracks or mounting bolts.

They are still using my 2 year old pictures-the big one and the small red vert one is mine. Gives you an idea on fit-the couple of bolster wrinkles has actually smoothed out a bit and the fit has settled a bit. At the time I think the group buy was $450, probably about $600 now.
