searched: passing smog

so ive done some searching and i've noticed that most ppl are either modded and cant pass smog or have a turbo. i have a bone stock 88 gtu and im having trouble passin smog. 1 thing that stood out on all the other post is ppl keep saying to get air directly to main cat. this might be really noobie of me but how EXACTLY do i do that? and should i adjust the tps? by runing my car "RICH" does that mean lots of fuel and less air or is it lots of air less fuel? cuz my car seems to burn 2 much fuel. should i adjust the tps, the screw on top of the intake manifold or both? and if so which way do i turn it? btw before i go again im gonna get new plugs and new o2 sensor and just to be safe im gonna do the alcohol trick. these are serious questions so dont give me hell cuz im goin thru enough and i think im being sincere to get sincere answers. below are my results

Rich = higher fuel content in the mix, lean = less. Running rich you won't pass emmisions, you will need to lean it out as much as possible. The pumping air directly to the cat thing is I believe bypassing the AVC so that the airpump is constantly pumping air 100% of the time to the cat. If you don't have a functioning airpump it is almost impossible to pass emissions. If you don't have an airpump anymore for some reason you can probably buy one from someone on the forum or buy an LS1 airpump off ebay and hook that up to your cat with a switch to turn it off\on.

There have also been a few recent threads about emmisions. A brand new cat with an constant air supply seems to always be the winner. If your car still has the original cat then chances are you need a new one.

as Juiceh says..you need a catalytic, a functioning catalytic converter.pleas note that if you do have one on the car, know this..rotary engines "eat" catalytics..because they create a higher exhzust temperature ..so your best bet is if you have had your catalyic converter on the car for more than a 2 years(being generous) you would be wise to purchase another one..also (and I hate saying this..) "search" for threads ..emissions,failed emissions, best catayltic..Bonez high flo Cat..along those lines ,you will get more on this subject.good luck!

There is a whole section (including a chart of what to fix or look at) about emissions in the FAQ for FC. Please read the FAQ for FC sticky thread found at the top of this section before posting.
