Sealing Rebuilds

Okay well I finnaly have my s5 block torn down.

AsI was taking out the tension bolts, the bottem ones were drenched in coolent.

Here's the funny thing I noticedabout the tear down.
The seals on the housings are pretty much new. They peel out and aren't cracking except where it failed which caused the death of the motor. But every where else the seals are in very good shape.

Here's the thing that cought my eye. I can find absolutely no evidence that Halomar or any other RTV type sealent was used on this motor. Nothing.

Did Mazda not use a sealer on the housings at the factory.

I think that someone before me tried to rebuild it because upon taking apart other rotaries the water seals were cracked up and stuck to the housings in such a way that you had to scrape them out. Not with this one. They just come right out and are still full housing circles, except the one that failed.....

The inside of both front and rear housings are in awesome shape. No scrapes nothing. The intermediate front and rear lateral ones show almost no signs of wear, as usually you can see how the rotor slid against them.

is this what happens when you do a rebuild but don't use a sealer?

Mazda only uses sealer on the oil pan gasket and the "legs" of the rotor housings.
