SCREW IT! Stock air pump is going back in.

You know what I think? I think this whole electic air pump port activation thing is SILLY! Im sick of dealing with it! Im sick of tinkering with 260 PSI walmart pumps! the stock air pump takes next to no HP and doesnt weigh THAT much!! Im jsut going Coldfire style with running a line straight off the air pump, into a dump valve, and then up to the 6pi ports and the VDI.

Im still eliminating the ACV, im just using the dumo valve to regulate the pressure.

im getting rid of alll my solenoids now. forget the relays and RPM switches. Im done :P

/end nightly rant on the unecessary mods in the RX7 community

Finally, someone's actually figured this out.

No, that would be a big step backwards. Without a control system to open the aux ports and VDI at the the right time you lose most of the benefit of having them functional. You'd be better off wiring them open.

The solenoids are very simple to plumb up, and you don't need any rpm switches or relays because the ECU does it all for you. All you need to do is set it up as it was stock. Your only complications are the custom plumbing to replace the ACV and the pressure relief so you do pop the actuators. No big deal really.

I was just looking at coldfires write up in the archives. he wired up a dump valve so that it dumped enough of the pressure that hey opened right at 3800. Seemed to work ok for him!! Do you see anything wrong with it?

The mass of what is shown in the picture above.....is larger than the ACV.

S5's don't need all of that, since they have ECU activated solenoids to open right at the proper RPM, so you just need to make sure there's enough backpressure in the airpump for it to actually build positive pressure, I usually just run the airpump into the ACV dump hose, that big silencer thing, it gets rid of the annoying air sound, and it provides back pressure!

let me ask you guys this. I put a plug in that part of the hose that used to go to the SS split air pipe that lead to the Cat. Is this doing the job?

The compressed air source from the ACV to the aux port & VDI solenoids comes from a regulator where the air pump outlet comes into the ACV.
The split air & anti afterburn stuff is downstream & will not affect your setup.

I am going to differ with the statement that "the stock air pump does not rob any power". I took my car to the track with the pump off and with the VDI working (S5 mani swap on S4) and I ran a 15.3. With the air pump on the car and it activating the VDI system, the car ran a shitty 15.8. But that is for me.

That's not a very accurate comparison...

There are many variables in a 1/4 mile time. Launch, shift points, how fast you shift, etc. If it was on different days the temp/track condition can play into it also.
The main benefit I see to removing it is one less belt and more open space.

so you all think I should run the air pump straight to the VDI/6pi solenoid, and then to the VDI and 6pi ports?

so you just go from the air pump right into the muffler? and then tap that rubber hose? does that tap go to the solenoids or straight to the ports
