Screeching on cold + smoking. Help?

Hey all,

Just got my car back from a turbo swap last week. Comin' from an NA for years and years, turbo is like a different car But with new car, comes a new set of problems.

Fired it up this mornin' ... pretty cold night, so it took a few cranks. When it did fire, I heard this screeching sound; Never heard before. Not wanting to turn the car off mid-warmup, i let it continue. That is, until it started smoking.

Popped the hood, and it blew a ton of smoke in my face. Looks like the belt connecting to the alt has snapped... distinct smell of burning. After reading through the forums, I'm betting the sound came from my belt.... but is there anything else I should be lookin for? Can't see anything out of the norm.. but then, I dont what "norm" should look like on this new setup.

Any suggestions?

make sure the alternator pulley spins freely, the bearing could have siezed up meaning a new alt is in your future. if the belt was just loose it could have cause the belt to turn sideways or just slip and burn itself up.

Well, i took another look. The belt from the shaft to the alt is toast. Tried to freespin the alt, with no luck. The other belt looks fine, in terms of condition, but it wont spin by hand. When the car fires up, the fan won't spin, and there is nothing connecting the alternator. But the other belt connecting to the P/S looks fine. And the car seems to run fine.

Any ideas why the fan wouldn't be spinning?
