scratches on the rotor and stationary gear berings....

hey guys i got some guy to install my rotor and stationary gear bearings and now i have at least one scratch on each one... teh scratches can be felt with the top of my fingernail.. so they are not just light scratches is this mean all teh bearings and my rotors are fucked? ill try to get pictures.. but as of now wwhat do u guys think? i called atkins and tehy said to use sandpaper 360 to 400 wet grit just where teh scratch is to lighten it... any ideas im i screwd? i payed this guy 100 bucks to install my new bearngs and i think he compeltly messed them up

just sand them. Not hardcore or you will screw it up. use a sanding pad. you will be fine

First, I would be going back to whoever installed them and raising hell. If they scratched them putting them in (which would be hard to do with a bearing press and the right size collar) I would make them replace the bearings, put them in correctly and refund part of the installation charges. A $100! That's outrageous! I had mine installed at a Mazda dealership and all they charged me was for one hour mechanics labor which was $60.

The rule of thumb is that if you can catch your fingernail, the scratch is too big. That being said, you can flatten them out with sandpaper. Though if I were you, I would take them back to the person who pressed them in and have them fess up and replace the bearings. You paid them to install properly, and they didn't. Any machinest should know how important it is for bearing surfaces to be clean.
