SCCA Solo II stock category reclassification

If you are interested in autocrossing, let me suggest something. Under current SCCA classifications, 2nd gen NA RX7s in stock category are classed with the 1.6 liter Miatas and the NA MR2s. A well driven RX will finish 3-5 seconds behind a well driven Miata or MR2. It is rare for an RX7 to finish well, and when they do it is usually because of a small turnout or lack of Miatas and MR2s. Consequently, few RX7s ever show up. I suspect very few 2nd gen RX7 owners join SCCA as a result.

I think this is an awful situation. We have one of the greatest sports cars ever made, yet the nation's preeminent Sports Car club has made it impossible for the car to compete.

At the present time the SCCA is in the midst of a Stock class reorganization. The current proposal continues to pit the 2nd gen against the same Miatas and MR2s. However, the new classifications have not yet been finalized.

If you would like to autocross in SCCA, and, have a chance to compete for first place in your class, SCCA must first reclassify the 2nd gen to another class with cars of similar weight and horsepower. I believe the only way to obtain this result would be for numerous RX7 enthusiasts to send messages to SCCA:

1. requesting the RX7 be placed in a class with cars of similar weight and horsepower; and,

2. indicating your interest in joining the SCCA if the RX7 could be classed where it is competitive.

I have already done so, but the more voices raised, the more likely we are to be heard.

I currently own a couple of 2nd gen NAs and would love to autocross them. But, since they don't have a snowball's chance in hell, I autocross my MR2 and Miata instead. I'd much rather be in my RX7.

Go to the SCCA website, Solo Events Board area:

http://www.scca.org/interactive/boards.html

and use the email link to send the Solo Events Board your message regarding the classification of the RX7. Hopefully, some good will come from it if enough people request reclassification.

I think the RX7 would be a fun autocrosser if reclassified. Let's see what we can do.
