Scariest FC Tales

Alright, I want to hear some horror stories regarding FC's, be driving, repairing, or just whitnessed. I think my scariest moment was when I missed a stop sign and saw red coming from the left. Too bad the car didn't stop quick enough. Your turn!

I spun out at 110mph over a 2 block distance, while being chased by a drunk driver, that was years ago, maybe a month after I bought it, lets just say I learned my lesson---->There are reasons for speed limits.
ps. no damage whatsoever to the car

Stereo amp? Which part of the car caught on fire? I hate working under the car, especially on the differential area, I'm always afraid of the subframe falling and getting me!

I just got finished getting my header installed, and I wanted to take it out for a little test run. Well the roads were *slightly* damp, it had rained about a 1/2 hour b4. I was heading up the road , going WOT through the gears, and at the top of 2nd at about 60MPH the rear end came loose. I slid sideways , heading right for a telephone poll. Luckily I could get control in time and get it pointed straight again. Probably looked like I did a really sweet drift Thats probably about it with my FC though, havent really had any other mishaps. Now ask me about my Fiero GT that I flipped over, thats another story

Well, I guess I can name two other occasions. I was ran off the road by a dodge ram. He had his blinker to turn left, and there was a passing lane to go by him on the right, so I turn into it to pass him, and he turns right and cuts me off, which forced me to run off the road. I've also been cut off and pushed into oncoming traffic, that was even better. Was driving in the middle lane and some asshat decides to turn into the turning lane while I was next to them, well hitting the horn only made them turn sharper. That was damned scary, avoiding cars that are coming at me while avoiding a car turning into me!

hrm....close calls eh? I have had quite a few, sorta.

#1.
Driving to work in the afternoon, it was wet out and I come up to a corner that I ALWAYS get bent on cause it is just perfect, really wide road with low traffic. So I kick the back end out a little bit and I guess I hit a slightly oily spot or something cause suddenyl it whipped right around and there was a car right there.....almost hit the back end of it as I slid into middle of road, not only that but it was a lady from where I work, luckily she did not notice it was me.

#2.
Driving up the mountain to go snowboarding with a friend and it is really snowy and slippery on the road cause the slackers that work on the mountain have not plowed it yet. Suddenly the back kicked right out and we fishtail up the road with a 8 foot ditch on the right hand side.....did not really come that close to it but got the heart rate up a bit.

#3.
On the way back from the mountain on the highway I am passing some chick driving a van. There is a car in front of her van and she tries to pass, comes into my lane with me about halfway along her car doing about 120-130km/h.....almost whent into the median.

#4.
Driving in town, some idiot dicides to pull out in front me and almost nails me.

#5.
Driving down my road to my house some lady pulls out of her driveway into MY lane and she is looking the opposite direction of where she is going, I swerve around her and lay on the horn real good. She snaps around and glares at me like I was driving poorly.

*note*
All these close calls came AFTER I did my exhaust and the car is quite loud, sort of like it attracts idiots now.

(sorry for the post being so long, just had a lot of close calls is all)
PS.
I have only owned the car for 4 months now and all those happened within 3 months of buying car.

I know what you're talking about. I visit some friends in socal every year and go up into the san gabriel and san bernadino mountains. On some of the highways they don't even have guardrails!!! These are like thousand feet drop off's. That terrifies me more than anything.

Damn straight, bro, our 'verts are like a horse with blinders on if the top is up... I don't know how many people I've almost creamed, even after having checked before I change lanes! Fortunately I have little "bubble" mirrors attached to the side mirrors so I can see *much* more of the road there.

Oh... and try driving one day in Atlanta with a broken horn... you don't exist.

But the scariest thing ever happened to me driving did NOT happen in my 'vert (thank God hope it never does)... it was in a supra with balding tires... I spun across three lanes of oncoming traffic. Fortunately I wasn't hit and didn't cause a wreck (traffic was extremely light at the time).... but man did I need to pull over and chill after that one.

k, got 2 stories...first was a few weeks after i got the car coming off the northern state parkway onto a nice long hairpin exit, dual apexes. the car was totally stock and i had awful 14 inch tires...i entered too fast (i.e didnt know how to corner, inexperienced) and started braking, gradually letting up on the brake as i swung around the turn. HUGE trailbraking, somehow controlled the car and ended up w/ a big smokey slide...NOT on purpose!! I pulled into a nearby parking lot and had chunks missing from both rear tires!!! next story, fresh from a sunday morning handwash i took a drive to dry the under-chassis of the car (back when i washed it every other day and i was **** about a spotless car). had a decent suspension, KYB's and Suspension Tech springs w 16X8 ROH's and 225/50/ZR16 SP8000's. A couple miles down the road i take a real wide left across traffic (legal 'cept for the speed) and the still wet tires lose it in the rear and i go end around end a couple times, finally stopped straight and correct in the opposite lane of traffic i was aiming for (smokey again). since I have learned to SLOW DOWN and try to practice competition driving in a competition environment. it's safer and more fun...our shops got an sweet ITS BMW 325 and the only car to really-corner us event to event were a couple of NA FC's...our bimmer is faster, but these cars have incredibly well dialed in suspensions w/ fantastic drivers!! now they want to put a cage in MY 7 and throw slicks on her (otherwise my mods are legal for SCCA) and strip the interior cpt for one corbeau/harness hehe aint happenin, i bought 2 o those seats for a reason hehe

Yo,

Well, my scariest story was right after I cleaned and re-oiled my (Seth's?) GReddy Airinx filter.

I popped it on and started the car. It ran like **** and billowed out massive clouds of white smoke!! The car would hardly idle, wouldn't rev and was continuing to put out a smoke screen worthy of James Bond!!

I thought part of the filter had been sucked in, or the dust retention foam was causing unholy destruction in my 13B...basically I **** a pink twinky. I quickly turned the car off and checked the engine bay. Hey, what's this? Oops, I forgot to plug the MAF back in. Durr.

Plugged it in and the car ran like a champ. That was it for scariest moment. *grin*

Driving to work at 11 pm on Febuary 20th 2000. Head tword an intersection in my 88 SE. A jeep sitting in the opposite left turn lane lurches out infront of my right as im entering the intersection at 45mph. He says his foot "slipped" off the clutch. Front end was totaled. His jeep had a bent bumper. I got $4500 for the car, $700 for injury. Used that to by my vert.

Scary ****, brakes locked up on wet pavement, sliding twords a much higher/larger vehicle at 45mph.

steepish downsloping left hairpin turn in the rain with gravely crap on a narrow piece of mountain road with no guard rail...i knew it was a total death trap so i took it at about 15 mph and the backend broke loose. car went totally sideways around the whole turn...woulda looked like i drifted it on purpose...except for the dodge caravan coming up the other side and no way in hell the brakes would stop the car. luckily the minivan saw the slide and stopped short. the rx stopped sliding and i drove around the lady after straigtening out at the end of the turn. lady was yelling something along the lines of "damn kids slow down" and i yelled back i was only going 15 mph. not that scary, but its all i've got.

oh and i almost merged into a stepside s10 pickup going like 90 in a 55 because he was flying along stupid fast and wasn't there when i checked for him at first. missed him by about 2 inches i'd suppose. his buddy followed me for awhile yelling all kinds of **** at me from his riced out ford astro van. such a pathetic site.

oh and niether time was i driving my own FC

Car repair story:
I had a problem with the mounting point of the passenger seat. When I peeled back the carpet, I could see that the small rail where the back of the seat attaches to the floor had rusted just enough that my 250lbs made it break.
No problem.... just got out the MIG. I fassioned a nice metal braket and cleaned/stripped the area very well. I clamped everything in place and started to tack the plate down. A couple of tacks and a nice bead and I was done - it looked great.
While I was admiring my work, I started to smell something - something hot. I frantically looked around the car's interior, but nothing. Then I looked under the car. To my horror, an area of about 1 square foot of the black undercoating was completely engulfed in flames - and spreading! Luckly I had an extinguisher within arms length, but my heart rate was definately up there! ***Valuable lesson learned***
