Savanna questions
For one thing, I don't know how to spell it. So I'm not having much luck searching for it.
But what's the deal with this?
There seems to be an FB type and an FC type. Is there an FD version?
When/where was this a big thing?

I've never figured it out. Mazda seemed to slap it on half the RX-7's they made, including mine.
The Savannah is a desert in Africa, but Mazda dropped the "h", so you spelt it right.

Savanna was the name of the RX-7 in the Japanese market for a while. It originated on the RX-3 coupe, so in a way the first gen RX-7 was the second generation of Savanna. The FC was also sold as a Savanna, but I believe the FD was sold as an Efini, and later, just RX-7.

From how its been explained to me, Savanna was a chain (network) of dealerships in Japan that sold Rx-7's. So the badge did not say "mazda" but it said "savanna" rx-7. They were like liscenced dealers for the rx. Then mazda stopped using the savanna distribution chain and began to sell the rx-7 themselves under the mazda badge.
This is a poor example but it will give you the idea: Its like buying a Chevy Corvette not a General Motors Corvette.

My understanding from my Japanese friends is: Think of only a few elite dealers getting the Efini or Savanna product. The were all Mazda dealers, but Mazda's presidents choice dealers. The best of the best dealers.
And yes all mazda sports cars were sold under that "name" until the FD which were sold under the new Efini name.

You had the "savanna" and "cabroliet" editions.
I need to find some badges for my USA spec cabroliet convertible (once it's a turbo II) & 1992 savanna turbo II.
