same oil filter?

I bought a rear iron for a S5 na that was off a motor that had lost a front apex seal. It had a STP s2808 oil filter on it. Thats the oil filter I used to use in my 87 accord. Is that a universal oil filter? I know I wont be reusing it or anything. I just wanted to know if having that filter on is what blew his motor because it looked like a brand new filter inside.

If it lost a apex seal.. I high dout it would be from the oil filter.. could be OMP failure though.. that or just old age..

I was thinking that if it was the wrong oil filter maybe it blocked the oil system. I called autozone to see what stp oil filter was used on s4 and s5 na motors and they said s2808 is used on both as well as an 87 accord. I use dealer ones anyway but if your not going to use oem use the numbers Icemark posted and never trust the auto zone guy

Yep, some of the aftermarket oil filters cross reference over to Honda applications.
I think the old Fram PH3593A oil filter also fit on some of the Hondas.

No big surprise since I think the majority of Japanese aumobiles use one of two thread sizes for oil filters.
