Ok So I have a 2000 SI Civic the question is should I sell it to buy a nice 1989 Turbo II with a new rebuilt motor.

The motor was built by a reputable guy in my area, so that is not a question...the clutch was also just replaced... and on top of all of that the AC still works.

I have never owned a rotary before, and I would be replacing my daily driver with this...so my question is....Is this good or bad?

keep the civic and save up for another turbo 2. Especially dont do it if the civic is paid off.

dude, i would keep the civic a few years and save up for the seven

seven can be a DD, but a civic SI is a really good DD

A nice T2 you do not DD, you take it out for car meets and other such things... you buy a Vert for a DD hah! Yeah I'd do it in a heartbeat to get the T2 but I'd be looking for something else as a DD, not that you can't DD the T2... I just hate putting wear and tear on such a sweet car.

it's simple man, if you get a TII and use it for DD your goona wish that you should've keep you civic Si, lets say your civic with 25 bucks makes you through the entire week without having to fill it again, with 25 bucks on a TII it will get you for 3 days maybe lol. i had a TII for daily driver and i last only a month after i had to buy a DD and store the TII. it suck gas like nothing i have ever seen. my advice to you is keep your Si and save some money so you can buy a TII and use it for weekends or something like that.

coming from someone who DD a T2....i hate driving it every day...i get about 220miles to the tank but i really wish i could afford a DD.......it is awesome that i get to burn ricers on a daily basis

really it all depends on what and how you wanna do things. first off the Fc turbo is a amazing car and ***** all over the 2000 civic si. If you really want a TII get it. S5 TII are harder to find also. With a rebuilt motor, it should be fine. I was fine with my low mileage jdm until i wrecked it. i raced it a lot too, but i also maintained it on time and right and fixed everything that was bad asap. So if you can take care of a car, it should be fine. Also, I've heard of people daily driving fully built cars, but I'd recommend basic performance upgrades such as fuel, intake, full exhaust, fmic, stock turbo or maybe small hybrid and no more than 12psi, and you should be good for low 13s depending on tires and skill which btw, is way faster than your civic. The bad part is be ready to spend $50-60 on premium gas depending on your city's gas prices. The mpg is gonna be around 15-20mpg depending on mods. If you can afford it, then thats good. Also be like me, a madman(lol), who checks oil and coolant and leaks frequently. You don't have to be as crazy as me, lol, but make sure you check that stuff, because you are supposed to do it anyways. But even after saying all this, I wouldn't want to put mileage and spend that much money on gas on a TII, so thats why I got a 89 240sx fastback DD, but hoping to trade the 240sx for a miata which will save more gas. i say get it though, and good luck.

I guarantee you will regret selling the si... So dont do it.. besides, theres no reason to sell a car that you might get 10k out of it to buy a 3-5k car.. Especially a rotary.. Definately need something to DD as others have said. I have an 06 si and keep the turbo vert on the side(which is for sale BTW). So believe me when I tell you it wont work out. Just save some money for a TII, its not really expensive.

Ide say just get it and drive it how you want, if it gives you problems then fix them im positive youll be a better mechanic in the end, but the TII does make up for the crap gas milage and stuff breaking by being a blast to drive!!!!!

The RX-7 also handles better than the Si and has better top end power than its 0-60 would indicate.

An N/A makes an excellent & reliable daily driver, just be careful not to buy a lemon. Common problems include the fuel pulsation dampener (just replace it if leaking), electrical systems (dash, mostly) and aftermarket thermostats (must use OEM). TII reliability is worse, but I hear it is decent. I daily drive my s4 N/A and have made frequent long trips without any worries.

Gas mileage for the N/A is EPA 18/24 (real world: 16-19/24-26). Assuming you get 20mpg on the RX-7 and 26mpg on the Si, you'll use 12,000/20 - 12,000/26 = 138 more gallons per 12,000 miles on the RX-7. About $375 @ $2.75/gallon. Assuming 2mpg worse on the TII (just guessing), it'll add another 67 gallons (~$180).

I'd keep the Civic Si. Save for a TII, but the Si is a reliable daily driver.
I can't really say much of anything that hasn't already been said here, so that's all I'll say.

Just as everyone has said here...

From personally having a DD '90 TII, which I love to death driving everyday and dont mind the gas money lol which is a bitch, but I would rather have another DD so I could only bring it out for casual driving and keep the kilometers low and in amazing shape. But I went out on a limb just to aquire the car anyway and will do what I have to do until next summer which is when I plan to get another DD. The car has approx. 43000 miles on it and i've drivin it daily for over a year now...
