Is it safe to use a blowtorch on the flywheel nut?

I know its OK and basically required to get the front pulley nut off, but can you do the same on the flywheel nut? I realize it usually isn't necessary, but it is in my case. I'm afraid I'm about to break my breaker bar (its already bending) and I'm basically jumping on it, but it won't budge.

My son. Rent yourself a decent impact gun. Your life will be much easier.

When i had to do this i read you can torch it but i just wouldn't trust myself to not ruin anything back there.

I bought the humongo wrench thing from racing beat and took a couple whacks with a 4x4in fence post to knock that sucker loose. But like hozzmanrx7 said best bet rent an impact, i know I'm buying one before I've got to do that again.

Thats what I did last time, but some ****** stole it. Anyone else that cares to answer my question? I'm already well aware of the option of using an impact wrench, I just want to avoid it if possible.

I hope you don't plan on re-using any bolt that you torch for too long. It'll change the strength of the material. Then again, I don't know how long "too long" is. And for steel the surface is affected more than the inside, which often is a desirable thing (hard shell without embrittling the innards). But point is if you torch something anything could happen to its strength, you don't know what, and you might regret it later.

I don't care about the nut, I have a few spares. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a possibility of damaging the e-shaft.

Its not a matter strength, I was jumping on the damn thing.
Anyway, I finally got it off. I just bounced on it for a while and it finally broke loose. Never had this much trouble with any of my others.
