Is it safe to drive with out PS belt?

On my way home from work the ps belt snapped. The car is my dd and I need to drive it in it's current condition before getting the belt replaced. Is it safe to drive the car with out the belt on?

I was on wiki answer and someone replied with this.

"With most power steering systems, the fluid also acts as a lubricant for the steering gear. If the fluid all leaks out the gear can seize due to lack of lubrication. If the steering gear seizes, the steering will become suddenly locked in whatever position it is in at the time, likely causing a crash.

On some systems, the fluid pushes a hydraulic cylinder attached to the steering linkage and the steering gear has it's own separate supply of lubricant. If you have such a system the above may not be a concern. "

At first i was gonna drive the car no problem but after reading that i don't think so.

You should be fine. How long until you can buy a new belt, they aren't that expensive and rather easy to install.

right it wont hurt a thing on your car but 8 bucks for the belt and 20min of time... probably took longer to post this thread than it was to put on the belt

While your at it inspect/replace the other belts if it's within your budget. There's a good chance that they were all put on at the same time.

Running with no fluid is different than having no belt. Lubrication for you is not an issue so you are fine to drive it that way. Though I disliked the pull in the steering when I had my belt of for a couple days.

If you do a lot of parallel parking you may end up with forearms like popeye.
