Safe to burn bushings?
Is it safe to burn bushings off the front control arms? I heard it on here in a few places, but I wasn't sure if it was for the rear only or front too. I don't want to have melted aluminum blocks going back on my suspension so please be serious with answers
Dude, if you have some dremel-type rotary bits, just mechanically remove the old stuff, using an electric drill, or pneumatic die grinder (I think I used a drill, just because the "chuck" changes were faster with the dremel bits)...works like a charm, just don't get carried away with it & remove a bunch of metal...
I have a dremel, but it won't reach into the front bushings. I think the rubber has kinda welded itself to the aluminum which is why I was asking. I know about the band in the rear bushing of the front control arm, which I plan to cut with it, but it would be simpler with no rubber in the way wouldn't it?
Obviously, if you can't reach it with the dremel, you're gonna have to try something else...I haven't needed to do my control arms yet, just my sway bar links & ball joints...and the links were a piece of cake with the dremel bit...
I would try anything short of burning it, but that's me- if you want to burn it, what the heck...

I tried burning them and it didn’t do anything except make a mess.
I used a puller from AutoZone.
