SAFC richness/leanness

alright i know that rich is better then lean, buuuutttt heres the story.
I am getting an safc and i have already talked to this guy about tuning it, and he asked my what setting is good for an rx7?!?!?!? i was like huh???? he said that cars usually have a setting of about 13 to start off with ... and i just wanted to check with you guys... how rich or lean is it possible set the afc?????
HOnestly i dont even think i know what im talking about hahah

It is dependent on the car as to how lean you can go. You need at least an A/F gauge to adjust it, and ideally a wideband O2 sensor.

EGT gauge helps as well.

Don't attempt to tune it without at least having an A/F gauge.

rich is safer, but makes less power. On an n/a you aren't very much at risk for detonation, so you can pretty much go for the optimum A/F ratio.

Uh, I wouldnt want to go to that shop. If he is supposed to be tuning your car and cant even set a baseline map on a safc... that just scares me.

oh he can he just wanted to know if there was some sort of a too high of a setting ... noone in edmonton has experience in tuning an rx7. this guy has the most experience with safc and vafc's so im hoping itll be alright. hes got the wide band and all for his dynapack dyno.....

Yeah, there is no setting for all TIIs or something like that.

Make sure that wideband he uses is in your exhaust before the cats and it is perpendicular to the exhaust flow.
