safc question and indiglo lights

Hey anyone know if/when the safc is unpluged does the computer still see something differant than the regular ecu settings or does it go back to normal? Reason being is that I'm getting a mechanic friend of mine that is a master mechanic said that he read over the safc book and he said that unless you not only unplug the safc you also have to remove the line that goes to the ecu to return the car back to stock. Is this true? Anyways also I'm wiring up my indiglo lights and I was woundering if anyone has ever installed these into the factory parking light wires so that when I turn on my parking lights the indiglos will come on? Thanks!

When you unplug the harness your car is going to stall and not run anymore.

I didn't think it would either myself. When you install the s-afc(from what I remember), you take the signal leaving the ECU and send it to the s-afc. So then the s-afc alters the signal and sends it back to the AFM/injectors/etc. If you don't have it plugged in it doesn't get any signal. That is my educated guess.

I like that man sounds pretty edumacated to me so if I put it back the way it was it should work fine? I do have a fuel pump of rx7.com 720 secondaries and an upgraded turbo do I really need the safc? Thanks.

ps is there any ecu i could get that would eliminate the need for an safc. Thanks.

Why do you want to not use the s-afc? Do you need the s-afc? No, you could run fine without it since I had mine at all zeros for a while with that same setup. If you get it on a dyno you can get some better gas mileage and more power though.

An ECU that won't require an s-afc? How about a microtech/haltech?

well the reason I don't want it is simply because I'm ignorant on how to properly tune or even use it. I like the little digital rpm guage on it, thats pretty cool, lol. Anyways if it will still run good without it that would be great because its only a weekend car anyways so I might have to fill it up once a weekend or every other weekend no big deal.

Well it is used mainly to tune the car for modifications. Just spend the $150 and have it tuned on a dyno and then leave it be man.

hmmmmm. when I started it before the safc was not pluged in and the idle was way too speratic to drive. I wounder if the safc not being plugged in was the problem all along? Also do you think that all people that have a dyno know how to tune the safc? That would be great!

Yes, that could be the problem. I can *almost* keep my car alive with it unplugged. I am sure that any place that has a dyno should know how to tune an s-afc. It is VERY simple, by far the simplest fuel controller known to me. Ask in the regional section for a place to take your car to get tuned.

You can wire the indiglos to the wire that goes to the headlight indicator bulb in the switch- it's right there, and much easier.

Can you go more in depth? I've never taken the gauge cluster out, where exactly should I wire the indiglos in?

Not trying to steal your thread hondahater, I happen to have some indiglos sitting here waiting to get installed.

Go to fc3s.org and click on how to, then appearance.

There is a good write up on how to do it step by step.

Oh yeah, one thing he didn't mention- if you pull the bulbs from the dash (you won't need them) leave in the ones that light the odo & tripmeter. That way you can see how far you've gone at night.

Happy wiring!!!

You'll see them if you are removing the gauge cluster, they come out from the back. If you are not pulling the cluster (I had to pull mine to paint the needles red) don't sweat it, just leave em all in.
