SAFC II on S4 NA for mileage gains?

I was wondering if anyone has put an SAFC II on an NA and tuned it for mileage gains?

Yes, and it helps a bit if you're running without emissions control (so you don't bake the cats), but not a huge amount. I usually get 2-3mpg higher with the SAFC than without. Also note that you'll want to disconnect the O2 sensor input from the ECU if you want to lean it out on the highway (where it would be in closed loop mode). You can run a bit lean of stoich at cruise.

I was considering getting a megasquirt for highway mileage gain (and general misc things).

It will take years to pay back the $500 for the megasquirt though...

Getting a stand alone computer for an additional 2 or 3 mpg seems a bit like buying a $21,000 hybrid to save money on gas instead of buying a $14,000 econobox car.
