Well your brakes will only fail if you auto-x or do something that requires extended use of the brakes. I say leave the fogs and take em out if you auto-x it. Also, how bad do you need a BOV? Is it aftermarket or a stock replacement? If you just need another one, sell the lights and get it.

Your brakes are not going to over heat on an autox course because your fog lights are blocking airflow. What, 2 minutes on the course max?

Thats a stupid thing to blame for their failure.

I've done lots and lots of track sessions with the lights in place, no such problems.

They're mainly there to make you more easily visable to others in fog or other poor-visablity conditions, and they do that well. Headlights are aimed downwards so they don't do this very well.

My car has a complete S5 exterior.

I would go with a bov any day of the week! You need one, you don't need fogs.

That would explain it then....

My FC was a base one, so I actually purcahsed them hoping for better night visibility; to my dissmay they didn't (now I know why). I left the fog lights there for a couple of years, and ended up selling them in order to make money for the current project.

Hey, this is slightly off topic, but I recall somebody saying something about FTP lights, like actual lights that go behind the FTP lenses. Where can I get these?

For my street driven S5, I love my foglights. They look neat and (IF YOU KEEP THEM CLEAN) illuminate well.

That explains why they dont improve drivers visibility.

I prefer them as daytime running lights so other drivers see you comming.
(see my avatar)

If air flow is a concern, put in smaller ones.

Are you serious? If you don't understand the concept of making yourself more visable to other drivers, particularly in times of poor visabilty, then you need to relearn a few road safety basics.

I am sure he is confused (just like I was)!

When you look into aftermarket fog lamps (like the catz, etc), 95% of the time, the driver is trying to improve visibility (the rest of the 5% = rice). That's why I was asuming that they were supposed to help drivers visibility, vs the "other" drivers.
