s5 wastegate questions...

Ok so i got the turbo off. the exhaust side has zero play at all, and the intake side has a tiny bit side to side, but nothing in and out.

i took off the back plate to expose the wastegate. i took the actuator arm off of the flapper, and was investigating before i begin porting.

the flapper on the s5, how is it held on? because mine is really loose on the 'arm'... should i take it to have it welded somewhere? i can turn it like 4mm clockwise or counterclockwise. also, the external part of the flapper, that the actuator hooks to, sticks sometimes when i try to open it. should i bend it a bit to let it clear more?

last question, i read ted's writeup on fc3spro about s5 wastegate porting, but i still dont understand how much to take off of either hole. if anyone can post a picture of their s5 ports, id appreciate it

thanks a lot!

The flap is supposed to be loose on the arm. All internal wastegate flaps are like that.

Ok, i started porting, and i really worked on the small hole today.
I can now fit my thumb in, without hitting the sides at all, all the way down. Is that enough? I don't really know how much to take off...

And the larger hole, how much do I take off of that? What are my finished diameters supposed to be?

Sorry about the dark picture :/

Both holes can be enlarged, just make sure the flap can still completely seal them. Pain the inside of the flap with white pain then close it while it's still wet. That'll show you how much you can take out. Don't forget to allow a bit for the flap's movement.

sorry to be annoying with this, but ive read all the tutorials and looked at all the pictures, but i still have no clue how MUCH to remove... i know the boundries and how far i CAN go, but id like to know the finished diameter of the holes...

as of now, i have the small hole close to the same size as the stock large hole, and i have barely touched the large one.

I thought that pretty much covered it.

i ported mine out, and i love it. a bit of lag though... instead of boost hitting at 3k i now hit at 3500. nothing major. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v6...topus/porting/ but i no longer need an FCD right away (apexi 3" turbo back gt spec exhaust) i was getting fuel cut in 2nd gear at 4k at wot, now it doesnt come in until 4th gear around 5500

That would be exactly what I meant by making sure the flap can still completely seal the ports. Leaking wastegate = lag.
