Not sure what stage you are at. If you have taken off all the bolts to the flange plates (I dont think that is possible because at least 2 bolts wont come out unless the halves seperate) then take a rubber mallet and smack the hot side of the turbo. The halves of the turbo have a tight fit into one another. I put one side in a vise and struck the hot side a few times and then they seperated.

I would not recommend smacking the turbo to get the housing(s) to come loose.
If you tweak the housing bad enough, it'll bend the fins - not a good thing.
If you notice, there are two opposite bolts that happen to line up under the oil flanges.
Back them out alternately, and this gently pushes the turbine housing off.
Don't be afraid to crank on them hard.
Those bolts are very strong, and I have never had them break or cross-thread.
Some lubricant / penetrant will help, but be aware that that stuff will soak into the metal, and it will smoke like a **** when you fire it up the first hour or so running.

RETed is pretty much on it, here are some pics that might help though. These were taken when I rebuilt the turbo.
