Question s5 turbo on an s4 TII?

I have been wandering around the 2nd gen forums, and have been unsuccessful in finding an answer to my question. So please dont flame me for my noobishness.
anyways, my car has 110k on it and I hear Turbos tend to give out at about 100k, and right now i dont have the money for an expensive turbo setup (about to rebuild my engine ), so I'm looking for low cost alternatives that use mostly stock parts. I hear that the s5 turbos are more efficient than the s4 turbos, and this is the main reason that the s5 has 20 more hp. well that and 2 more psi stock, and higher compression rotors.

Anyways my question is simply how much modification, if any, is needed to fit an s5 turbo onto a stock s4?

also how much boost will i be able to run on stock parts before fuel upgrades are necessary?

you will need to swap the manifold with the turbo

boost is the same, 5.5lbs. But if you get an Rtek, some 720cc secondary injectors, an upgraded fuel pump and port the wastegate, you should be able to get a few more lbs.

As far as the turbo, as long as you get the s5 exhaust manifold, it bolts right up.

isnt the oil drain line different on the s4 and s5 turbos? I recently test fitted a s4 turbo on my s5 TII block and the stock oil drain line was different. It didnt fit. Its all steel braided line now so it dont matter.. but wouldnt you have to use the s4 drain line on the s5 turbo?

just in case your wondering why I got the S4 turbo on my car. Well its because its currently at BNR getting a stage 4 upgrade with upgraded actuator and 38mm wastegate port. Theres two reasons Why I chose the s4 over the s5. The first is simply because my car had an upgraded single t4 turbo and manifold on it, and did NOT have the stock s5 turbo and manifold. I had a S4 turbo collecting dust sitting in my garage. The second reason is because Brian over at BNR told me the S4 turbos are better for top end power as opposed to the S5 turbos being better on lower end power.

ahh, so the oil lines dont match up? are you 100% on that?
and by more low end do you mean they spool faster, but give less total power?

ok, so i would need to get the s5 turbo, manifold, and oil lines?
is it worth it? is the s5 turbo any better? or is it like FrankV702 said, they are the same, just diff power band?

the s5 turbo hotside is slightly larger, not really worth mentioning any power range difference...

The manifold for s5 is much more free flowing tho.

You will need the lines for the s5 turbo, i forgot about that. have fun tracking those down. Most people like to sell you s5 turbos and manis but the lines are no where to be found...

took me like 3 months to track mine down!

It is worth it for the manifold alone. anything you can do to make air flow more freely is worth it.

The S5 turbo and manifold are a bolt-on replacement. You keep the S4 oil and water lines.

You won't get any more or less peak power out of this swap, because the compressors and turbines are basically identical. The main advantage is the fully divided manifold, which results in better turbo response, and the bigger wastegate which doesn't require extensive mods to suit high exhaust flows like the S4's does.

there is a differnce in lenth of the return line, they dont match up if you have the shorter s4 line

When you put an S5 turbo on an S4, you keep the S4 oil return line and it matches up. You can't use the S5 line because it's too long.

it matches up to the front cover, right? so as long as the manifold places the turbo at the same place... you may be right.

I'll find out on mine soon...

The manifold does place the turbo in the same place, otherwise the TID, IC pipe and exhaust wouldn't line up either. It's a direct swap.

NZ_convertable says keep the stock s4 oil and water lines. I havent completely installed my s5 conversion, so take his word for it.
Let us know how it turns out.

The water lines match up perfectly.. Its the oil lines that dont match up. You can take my word for it.. As im in my garage as of about 15 minutes ago ******* with it. I just went ahead and did steel braided feed and return lines..

With an S4, if you put on a S5 turbo.. Use your S4 oil lines. If you have a S5 and are using an S4 turbo.. use the S5 oil lines.

keep your s4 lines. logically, those are the ones that would work.
let us know when you go to hook it up.
