S5 trans with s4 tailshaft shift problem

Hi all,

Im put an s5 trans in my car, but to get the mount to fit i had to swap the tailhousing so i could use one of my s4 trans mounts. the swap went smoothly, i removed the balancer and it all fits well, but when im sitting in my driver seat i can only shift into 1st 4th 5th and reverse sometimes. 2nd and 3rd are locked, they are not stuck in gear as i can drive the car in 1st or 4th. ive also tried pushing the gear slector with a screw driver to make sure it wasnt the mismatch of shifter. If anyone has any ideas why i cant get into gear, or any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

For detail sake, i used the s4 tailshaft and the s4 shift rod, and s4 shifter seating (part the ball slides into)

that is kind of weird.

there are three shift rods, 1-2, 3-4 and 5-R. if it was ONE of those rods, you'd be missing that whole pair.

i just looked at a couple of the part numbers, and S4 and S5 have different rods and fingers, so maybe mixing is the trouble?

it could also be something wrong with the interlock, its a system of springs and ***** that keep the transmission from shifting into more than 1 gear at a time

I changed only the rod the shifter uses to push and pull the gears in, i wonder if the tip is slimmer on the s5 and my s4 one is too wide for 3rd because its hitting the 5th gear as well.

Did you not realize that the S5 Mount and S5 trans together would have installed on the S4 car without a problem?

No offense but look where that got you.
Besides Mazdatrix having the parts(priced about 110 US for both parts) that you needed,I fully encourage you to Search other venues besides our great group of guys on here.
I found out that sometimes a lack of patience or used parts is not always the best avenue,so honestly I feel ya on this one...Good luck to ya.
