My tailights were falling apart so I took them out and while they were getting repaired I decided to remove the diffuser. I haven't put them together yet. Trying to figure out which will be the best way to tint the tails. I was thinking of tinting the inside of the lenses so it's darker while the outside remains red and orange ( I'm trying to make My FC slightly different while avoiding unnecessary "talks" with the police crying about DOT standards and regulations.)

no. I seemed like it would take some cutting to keep the rubber surround intact. I thought about it but seemed more trouble than it was worth.

wow, 10 pages about tail lights.

for "tinting" the lights, go to lamin-x.com, they have what you need.

Someone should try making a new diffuser out of styrene or something. I think something that diffuses the light but doesn't have all the bumps would look pretty cool.

Every one of my Rx7's since the original white TII has gotten my taillight mod. Love it... I've got three more TII's that have yet to make an appearance... All will be mod'd of course.

Is that an N1 Dual I see? It doesn't melt the bumper sitting up that close in the cutouts?

Never melted the bumper. The tips on the N1's didn't get that hot.

hey there, couple of questions to those of you who have done this already. ive got a pair of S4s in the oven bakeing right now (ill mess those up first, so i dont mess up my S5s hopefully.

1. whoever baked them, did you shut the oven door? mine wont fit in the oven all the way, so im letting them bake with the door open.
2. what kind of sealant did you guys use? specifically, erikseven, since you seem to do these all the time. just wanting to know what i need to get.

thanks a bunch for the awnsers!

well, i found that the S4 taillights have the diffuser molded into the lenses, so you cant take them out, and you cant really mod anything. but anyway, i got my S5s put in the oven, and taken apart, went kinda smoothly. so i found that you can put the tails in the oven, with the door open, right at or below 250 degress, for like 6 minutes, maybe a little more if they need it.
but, still dont know what type of sealer i should be buying/looking for.

Here's my cheap-o tinted tails.
I think the person who owned it before me used that spraypaint tint crap.
All the lenses on the car are tinted with it, even the flash-to-pass lenses, if i had them in, were tinted with it, kind of crappy looking, but i guess it looks kind of neat. My dad calls it KITT

well, anything that provides a waterproof seal, because that is what your looking to accomplish.

When I did my tail's I just used a heat gun and for sealer just re-used the old sealer that was on there already, i just made sure to reheat it with the heat gun.
