S5 T2 transmission no 5th or reverse
Title pretty much states it. Worked perfectly fine before taking out the shifter for a fluids change. Went to put it back in it just hits a wall and won't go to 5th or reverse. Any ideas is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yes that was the first thing I checked. Ill try to explain with pictures what's happening and if someone could show me what I'm doing wrong.
Okay so I put this bolt with the ball bearing on too back in the hole you see next to it as that's where it was when I took it apart.
As soon as I put that back in and put the shifter back in the ball bearing falls to this section and stops all shifting sometimes even jamming it to only 1st and 2nd. Do I even need this ball bearing?
And that spring piece is located here on the transmission.
Let me know what you guys think pretty lost on why this ball bearing keeps jamming things up and where is the correct place to put it. You can see to the right on the last picture where I put the bolt with the ball bearing in.

Right now I have all 6 gears "including reverse" with that spring piece back into the bottom of the transmission. Once I put the bolt in the first picture with the ball bearing it will jam.

That is a detent ball and spring. Something might have came loose or broke on the rail assm. Might be an easy fix but might have to take the tranny to a shop if you can't get it. See if you can find a blow up of the rails and maybe that will help you get it back in.

I was able to finally get everything right so I hope. The ball bearing finally stayed in place and when I put it all back together I still had no 5th or reverse. Got fed up with it and decided to push it over with a little force and it jumped over and cleared it out. I know its not suggested to do such a thing but sometimes it calls for it. Everything seems to be working up to par after a quick test drive. Hoping to get more time out of it before I go dogbox. I guess we will see if it makes it through this drift event this weekend or not. Thanks to anyone who posted to try and lend there advice it's much appreciated.
