S5 shift rod in S4

He guys!

Will an S5 shift lever/rod fit into an S4 car?

I understand the S5 has a shorter throw and was hoping to retrofit one to an S4

Thanks,
-Grant

Where the hell did you get the shorter throw from? wtf they will swap but the threads are not the same so you need the correct ****. If your hopping to get a ghetto short shifter you will not. My S5 TII feels huge compared to my friends S4 and epic to my S4 with a short shifter.

O really...I read on some website that the S5 had a shorter lever...maybe i interpreted shorter throw. Regarless I'd like a shorter shift lever. Thanks for the info about the threads BTW.

So can anybody else confirm the shift throws?

Do you mean the S5 has longer throws??

Thanks,
-grant

Yes, an S5 shifter rod will fit. I have one in mines. I think its because the stock S5 shift **** is shorter so the throws are slightly reduced. Get a real short shifter from higgi or Mazdatrix.

hey there..
um i have an s5 one in mine (86 gxl) and it actually feels really good. i am using a stock s5 **** (the heavy ones) and it feels sooooo much better then the light stock ones, with the clear piece of plastic on the top.

i switched because the shifter i had before, was just an s4 shifter that was cut to make it shorter (came that way when i bought the car, forgot to check it but it shifted ok). the **** just fell off (literally). i couldn't put it back on so i replaced it with an s5 one i had around. i was thinking of the higgix one (cheaper then mazdatrix one) but was unsure about the threads so i just popped in my extra one. my brother's 90 gtu's shifter sticks out very high up while it LOOKS like a short shifter in my 86 gxl. it shifts fine since i just change my tranny fluid to redline. boy, it does make a difference.

i think i have another s5 shifter with a heavy **** still, somewhere.

Thanks

Thanks a lot for the infor guys. I went out to my local pick n pull and grabbed one for cheap.

I tested it in a junker S4 they had there, fit just fine. This actual shifter *** is in bad shape..ill just look for a better one sometime.

Thanks again for the help,
-Grant
