S5 Redline Question: All Cars Have 8K Redline? Only NA? Mine Is 7K.

I have a '91 NA S5 RX-7 Coupe -- I never actually compared my car's dash to any other FC's but... yesterday while checking different stores/auctions, I noticed that all 91 FC's had a 8k RPM redline... while this is how my FC's dash looks like:

Hmmm... why would it have a 7k RPM redline?

Maybe the previous owner had to replace it for some reason and got an S4 tach by mistake?

maybe they put a turbo tach in by accident somewhere along the line? where does it hit fuel cut? a us spec na hits fuel cut at 8250... tach reads +/- a couple hundred

S5 na redline is definitely 8k - looks like a turbo tach. Does your car in fact rev to 8k - if it does, and the buzzer goes off a couple hundred rpm before 8k, no big deal, just odd.

A couple things...

No boost guage...so unless just the tach was swapped to an S4 or Turbo unit, that'd be kinda weird.

My bet's that its either an automatic tranny car, or an auto guage cluster swapped in. Also, there's no shift light at the base of the tach (assuming the S5's had that still...)

Yeah, and 260kph speedo is stock. Its 161mph. Mine goes to 160.....so.... sounds pretty stock to me.

Probably just a TII cluster... I'm still interested to know how high he CAN rev.

Wouldn't a TII cluster have a boost gauge?

Are you guys sure? I have two J-spec Fc's and both only go to 180km/hr.
I was under the impression rx-7’s only went to 180 at least in Japan, I am sure there is a good chance I am wrong though

What kind of gay RX-7 do you have that only has a speedo up to 110mph?

I think your impression is incorrect. Sorry dude.

He's correct Japan has a 180 km limit even skylines have speedos that go up to 180km only

Yeah but you can also see the transmission lights as someone already said. His tach doesn't have them so either a turbo one got swapped by mistake or the previous owner was some kind of super ricer who thought that adding a turbo tachometer would make him faster.

It's also possible this could be a South American-market spec; in much of south and central America at least into the 80's, fuel that was available was generally lower quality/lower octane rating, so the cars sold there may have been "de-tuned" somewhat. This is only speculation though, I don't have any info that would confirm that hypothesis. I would be interested to know if the OP's car actually revs to 8k, or if it has a fuel cut 200-300 rpm past the indicated 7k redline.
