S5 omp removal?
S5 omp removal?
quick question i couldnt find the answer i wanted. Just had to start premixing, went 3,000 miles on my oil changed and when i checked it before changing it was still completely full making me believe that the pump is doing nothing. I know if i unplug it when i remove it i will be in limp mode, does anyone know a way to just throw a resistor in its place or something so i dont need to leave it dangling in the engine bay? what does the ecu see that makes it believe everything is ok and can i duplicate that without an Rtek?
erm,, no ones worked it out yet , even as far as feeding the wide range TPS sig back into the feedback input ( with 2.5 k resister offset ) ,, and replicating the motor winding resistances , AFAIK nothing seems to have worked beyond recoding with rtek
PS
sump was likely full because of dilution from fuel
check the OMP lines are full, and you can disconnect a banjo at the pump , rev the engine to 2000 rpm for 30 secs and catch a sample in a cup
quite likely its still AOK if the ecu is still happy ,, only way it can fail is if gumby put the timing cover gasket on with silicon and blocked the passage

I know the Rtek is not the cheapest way to go, but it's probably the best. If you have some soldering skills you can replace it yourself, otherwise send in your CPU to them.
thanks for the replies, at first i assumed it was just from fuel but i realy didnt smell any heavy fumes when i checked it (fuel was my first thought too). im going to get in RteK later this summer but now i want to see if it can be done without one. going to premix regardless cuz i hate burning engine oil.

there are 3 ways.
the Rtek. secondly you could just leave it there and premix, or thirdly you can leave it plugged in and bolt it to the fender or something.
the metering pump control in the ECU is sophisticated, so you cannot just use a resistor to fool it. it either needs to be plugged in, or disabled in the ECU code.

The issue with the s5 OMP I don't like is that if it eventually goes, it will take out your CPU. That happen to me and I suppose I can't complain for a car that's over 20 years old, but tracking down a new (used) CPU was a pain. They pop up from time to time on fleabay, but of course when I needed one, none were found for a few months! And the first one I found on fleabay clearly had seen a shorted OMP!
