S5 NA auto: starter fluid starts it then stays on BUT cannot self start!
i was wondering if anyone knew anything about that? supposedly if ya spray starter fluid the FC starts, and runs... but it doesn't start without it...so I'm pretty confused on that....once it starts it goes through accelerated warm up and then holds 1k idle... its an auto.. i was just wondering if anyone knew what that could be?
things i KNOW
fuel pump checks ok
all vac lines check ok
has 135,XXXmiles
any pointers would be great!
thanks!!!

bet you can't say the thread title 5 times fast.
Sounds like a weak compression engine that is flooding on startup. Auto's have a harder time getting started due to the extra mass of the torque convertor, pump, and fluid, and a borderline compression engine will just make this issue worse.
I have rebuilt MANY an s5 auto engine with 50-80k miles on the engine due to carbon buildup and weak compression that wouldn't let the car reliably restart.

well thanks guys ill give her a compression test... i bit my tounge saying it ....ill keep ya guys posted...
where might this fuel pump relay be? the one under the dash? thanks for the help! ill also try the new plugs and see if.... i thought if it was flooeded though that the engine would only stay flooded due to MORE starter fluid.. either way all your comments are a great direction ill be back.....
