S5 N/A Eng pics.. Just bought this core

I just picked up this S5 N/A core today. The guy had it rebuilt 1k miles ago from a local shop that's not here anymore. I can't believe it.. Lucky I didn't pay that much for it. The rotor housings are still like brand new..

I feel your pain.

As someone who has broken down three motors and has found *one* salvageable rotor out of six, I agree that it can be a frustrating experience.

Probably wasn't the builder's fault, or it wouldnt have made it 1k miles. IF you leave an OPR or oil pump key loose or out, it'll fail almost immediately after startup.

How badly do engines suffer after being involved in a fire? I found a core I can pull for cheap but it looks like the PD failed and it burned out. The plastics are melted, but not gone, so it doesn't seem like it burned for long, but I tried to pop the UIM off to grab something else and I couldn't get it to elease from the LIM even after stomping on it from above.

There are 4 bolts and two nuts holding it. you sure?

If that doesn't work, you can take a piece of wood and a rather large hammer and knock it off

Fire engines usually have rust and corrosion internally if they've sat very long at all...unless the fire was very minor.

The oil pump key was installed.. don't know.. That's why when you buy a core you are taking a big gamble...

The bearings may be have been out of spec. Or bad or no oil.

I jumped on that SOB and used my pry bar to no effect. I have removed the UIM a couple of times and had all the hardware and lines removed. I don't know how long it has been there either, so I'm not gonna take the chance on it. I have plenty to keep me busy with my FC as it is without having a project engine to rebuild.

lol, man if you have seriously tried jumping on a prybar, there has to be something holding it on, like the two nuts that are easy to miss if this is your first time getting it off.

Honestly, if you have all the nuts/bolts out, then you need to give the intake a good shock, not a gradual one like with a prybar.

Like I said, small square block of wood on top, and a nice big sledge hammer. lol, pretty crude, but it will work

"knock that sum bitch off" so to say

It shouldnt be that big a deal. The only times I've had one be that hard to remove was when there was still a bolt or nut holding it in place. It's common to mis the long bolt that runs through the center of the manifold.

it was the builders fault. he forgot the nylon washer that goes around the o-ring between the front iron and front housing.

IS this just your guess, or did you disassemble the engine in question?

I can see lack of the nylon washer allowing the oring to move and break. and this would cause low oil pressure. I'm not sure I can see it causing NO oil pressure, which is what I see as the cause of the damage there. It's possible, I'm just not 100% convinced that's the only cause. But, if you saw it with your own eyes, I'll take your word for it.
