s5 n/a: Chip vs. S-afc?
hey, I've been looking through a bunch of post and didn't find any definite answers.
this car will be doubling as a street/ auto-x car so i like the idea of tuning for better mpg and then if wanted for better hp. Also what are the pros and cons and what are price and power differnces?
thanks!

1.3L is not that small
what s5 n/a chip are you talking about? the ebay **** is crap and is not worth the money for shipping as far as chips.... your only best option is the safc, as far as i know thats really all there is for a budget for basic tuning and leaning out the mixture a bit for more hp and mpg

SAFC......you will prolly reach 170rwhp(pushing it) without wild mods....if you want more than that then expect an increase of $$ to invest and a decrease in driveability.

put a fat metal snail on the side of that ****!
a.k.a.
get a turbo, and get the S-AFC II
port your intake manifolds
supposedly porting the throttle body helps
dump all the junk you can, you know the important things like power steering, air conditioning
and your emissions control devices, from there you can further remove weigh by taking out your spare tire, any interior insulation and the list goes on

Remember, the S-AFC needs to be tuned. At the very least, this involves time trials and a long stretch of open road. Much better is to have it dyno tuned with a wideband. Just "bolting it up" does nothing, and fiddling randomly with the settings can make the car run much worse.

yeah, Im considering leaving this car pretty stock, I got this car to be a fun daily driver i spent about $3k on my Gti and all that car did was break and wont pass smog legally. My basic goal on this car is improve anything i can without making it super illegal or easily put back to legal for smog every 2 years and keep 99% of the stock drivability and try and improve hp. Im not really looking to go insane and put a turbo on if i wanted to id get a TII.
As far as being tuned how much would a shop charge for that? in the case that i just make it slower and suck up more gas haha.
Lasty i didn't mentiont his before but what options do i have for a "hallowed out cat" or some way to make it look like I have a cat for driving on the street to avoid a $3000 fine!

A properly tuned S-AFC will lean out the car, thus resulting is a gas savings.

well.......you need to pay anywhere from 300 bux to 800 bux for a good dyno tune or (i'm actually looking into it too) you can buy a Wideband 02 sensor and do it yourself....

AutoX Donut Maker
with bigger injectors and an SAFC or SAFC-II on a N/A 7, without changing out the ECU and etc. What kind of boost/hp is the SAFC capable of taking care of with our craptastic ECU's? 86 GXL...

a stock S5 NA has like ~130 RWHP IF that.....the SAFC tuned right can give you that much HP....... I think 150 RWHP is decent on an NA considering that is would be equivalent to ROUGHLY 184 HP to the fly if you use a 15% hp lossfrom the fly to the wheels.........

I have an Safc II that I don't need anymore. It doesn't meet my goals anymore. I never got to use it so you can say its brand new. Ill sell it for maybe $200 + shipping or obo with a floppy disc with the instructions to connect me. If anyones interested p.m. me.
