The neutral switch on the trans has nothing to do with the starter turning or not. The switch on the clutch pedal itself handles that.
The neutral switch is for 2 small things. 1) if your car has aws still, and the car is started in neutral, the engine revs to 3k for 10 seconds, while if it is started with the shifter in a gear other than neutral, it does not. 2) if your car has a bac valve still, then pushing the clutch in and putting the shifter in a gear other than neutral at idle will increase the idle rpm by about 50-100 to assist with takeoff. Note that these 2 functions dont always work even WITH a neutral switch present because after 15-20 years the wiring and electronics are getting a bit flaky.
Bottom line, you dont need it.
