S5 Hatch Tails on a Vert :)

Yes it is possible .. for all you that said it isn't .. well put some time and effort into it.

Anyway the following will result from installing the tails
1. Loss of use of the key on the lid (you need to remove the locking mechanism)
2. Lots of wet panties bwahaha

Anyway the whole premise behind it is that you have to bend the right side of the licenses fram metal to fit these in. Well if it were that simple I guess a lot more people would be running them.

Due to the layout of the tailights and where the bolts were sticking out, I had two options. One was to remove the studs, which I did not want to do because it would have made the tails not sit right. Or two was to drill holes in the metal parts where the tails fit to have them sit properly. Three holes needed to be drilled.

Passenger side: 1 hole
Driver side: 2 hole

The way I drilled the whole was to using a 3/8" bit, and while keeping the diameter as close to the same as possibly I did a bit of a vertical line/arc .. that way I would allow for movement and adjustment once the stud went through the hole. You need to be very careful when drilling the holes and lining them up so you dont swiss cheese the license plate area !!!

Anyway heres the end result ... the only thing i dont like is that the s5 surround doesn't fill the area entirely .. it leave about 1/4" gap between the top of the surround and the top of the cars metal frame. I will be modifying my S4 surround for a better fit.

And just for reference heres what the s5 vert lights look like (im still up in the air about which i like better on the vert)

1) I think thats why alot of people don't do this replacement mod. I personally wouldn't use the coupe tails because of this. I'd be too worried the cable attached to the release lever will snap at the wrong time and I won't be able to get the dead midget bodies out of the trunk before they start to smell really bad.

2) This happens with the s5 vert tails too!

eh, I like it. I mean it's not that different but if that all you can find then that's what you have to do.

I like the vert lights better myself. The lights going all the way across to me makes it look almost cheap

im with wet panties over there ...

ITS ALL GOOD bro!! dont worry a/b the keyhole

gotta do whatever it takes, for more wet panties! don't fret a/b the trunk. Not like that thing can fit more then 2 dead midgets max (unless u chop em up of course)

I drive an s4 vert w/ s5 tails. btw I didnt drill holes, If you're not looking for resale value of those tails ... I just took a hacksaw and chopped the 3 studs and filed them down so they're round and smooth. Looks good minus drilling my baby!!

oh btw i hope its understood that i think s4 tails are garbage ...

Ew. Hacksaws are named appropriately. They hack things, well done.

I'm not sure I can make sense of this. What's the point? So you have a S5 vert with S5 vert tails...you just wanted to put coupe tails on it for no good reason? I could maybe understand it if you had a S4 vert and wanted round lights. But S5 vert tails to S5 coupe tails doesn't seem worth the effort to me. They're the same damn thing.

However, this will be good for the S4 guys who want to put S5 lights on and not pay the retarded price the S5 vert tails go for.

the only difference is that the 2 inch spot by the license frame is red instead of black. good idea though. you can get into the trunk by pulling the metal rods. you dont need a key or a cable. (emergency only...)

They're worth about double that at least. When I was looking for S5 vert tails, I had a hell of a time finding a pair in good shape.
