S5 Front Air Dam On S4

Hello, I'm doing a swap. I'm putting a s5 nose cone on my s4, and I was wondering if you need to change the actual metal bumper off a s5 and put it on my s4 so that the brake duct mount properly? I think I do but i'm just checking. any advise would help! thanks

You don't need to change the actual metal bumper, just the skin. The brake ducts just need some minor trimming/modification.

you got a s5 bumper for your s5? did you get in an accident? I'm confused.

when people (like me) take the s5 bumper an put it on an s4 car, the rubber bumper skin is the only thing that swaps. Directly behind the skin is the REAL BUMPER. Its steel and covered by the skin and some styrofoam if I'm not mistaken.

I think he wants to swap an S5 skin onto the S4.
Swapping bumper skin isn't hard at all. The hard part is finding someone who is willing to sell all mouldings off of the S5 and doesn't think it's made of platinum. Also, the brake ducts will need trimming about 2 inches or so . Other than that, a few 10mm bolts and it's off. The hard foam under the skin and metal frame is the same as an S5 and S4.

If everything is the same so to speak, why do you have to trim the brake ducts 2inc. I'm just curious because I want to do it right. I think the bumper is a slight bit different on the s5 as opposed to the s4 because the s5 bumper has holes for the brake duct to mount in if I'm not mistaken..

Most people route the passenger brake duct to the intake... what's the point of the ducts anyways? Will the brake rotors survive without them?

I live in Aurora, Templeswain. I don't think the brake ducts are 100% imparative, but I just want everything to remain stock looking and fuctional. I want to know why i have to trim the brake ducts if everything is the same on s5 and s4. something is obviously different if i have to cut a stock factory mazda part(brake duct) I'm reffering to. can any one explain? thanks

The S5 lower (brake duct area) sits farther in and therefore your plastic brake duct need to be trimmed.
That and the center plastic vertical support needs about 1/2 inch trimming as well. Other than that, everything uses same bolt holes. And another thing, you won't be able to use the factory aero on the S5.

OK My final conclusion on this and the TRUTH behind this, is that INFACT the s5 Metal bumper reinforcement is DIFFERENT then the s4 bumper reinforcement. I looked the price up in VICTORIA BRITISH and it showsa pic of the s4 and s5 metal bumper and they are WAY differnt looking. SO I will be changing the METAl bumper out. I'm sure that why you have to trim the brake ducts if you do not swap metal bumpers. Also The people that have done this swap HOW DO YOU BOLT THE TOP OF THE s5 BRAKE DUCT TO THE BUMPER IF YOU USE A S4 BUMPER? their are no holes!!!!!

Ohhh dear lord............... THE BRAKE DUCTS DONT LINE UP PERFECTLY BECAUSE THE BUMPER COVER IS A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT SHAPE BETWEEN S4 AND S5. JUST TRY TO PUT THE BUMPER ON YOU WILL SEE THAT IT DOSENT TAKE A ROCKET SCIENTIST TO FIGURE IT OUT.

My S4 had a fiberglass bumper, not steel.

I guess only TII's came with them...

But, I'm putting an S5 bumper cover on mine. I have a Greddy FMIC, so the bumper is history. Plus I have Corksport fenders, which have S5 trim molded in front of the wheels. I'd like to keep the brake ducts too, but the intercooler pipes are where the ducts used to be.

You guys are making this WAAAY harder than it is.
The bumper skin fits perfectly and you don't need any reinforcements or kits etc. I just did it a few months ago
and is the reason why I'm saying you guys are making it harder than it is. The S4 brake duct need to be trimmed (it's plastic. no special tool--- use a dremel-- or cheap way, use a saw) The white foam under the skin does NOT need to be changed. Damn...do I need to take a picture to prove this??

I'm putting stock s5 fog lights on, so just tell me where the hell do I mount the upper part of the s5 brake duct to ? it is supposed to thread in to the bumper reineforcement 2 10mm bolts right? the s4 bumper has no place to mount the damn brake duct too right? explain to me PLEASE, Also I'm using S5 brake ducts the hole assembly, I'm not using S4 brake ducts still. I think me and you are missing each others point. I'm PRETTY dam mechanicaly inclined. Please let me know thank you. I already ordered a s5 bumper reinforcement from Victoria british. I have to use the s5 brake ducts for the s5 foglights to fit!!!

Not a problem.

The S4 brake ducts sit lower compared to the S5 because the S4 is skin opening is much lower. I'd say about 3 inches so if you are using the S4, you would need to raise the duct higher (S4) higher. I know you have the s5 brake duct and I didn't use the S5 brake duct when I did the conversion. I'm sure everything will bolt up.
As far as the S5 brake ducts, I assume you would need it for the fog lights. I wasn't aware you were attaching the fogs as well. Sorry about that.
As for the bumper skin, all the 10mm bolts use the same holes . There are 3 10mm on each side inside the fenders about 6 inches apart. You need to get to it by either turning the wheel to get inside the fenders or take them off. All the others are in eyes view. That's all I can think of. Let me know if you have any other questions.

not to change the subject, but if you install an s5 bumper onto s4, will the front turn signal lights harness plug into s4 plug?

thanks

hahah... this thread is soo dumb. its like a bunch of newbs arguing among each other.

Dan, you DONT need to change out the steel bumper reinforcement. Just swap the front bumpers off and you'll be okay.

Brake Ducts: You will need to trim them if you plan on keeping them. I just take them off because I don't believe they do any REAL cooling to the brake rotors.

Turn Signals: Your S4 turn signal lenses will not fit into the S5 bumper. You will have to trim, or go buy the S5 lenses with the S5 bumper.

FTPs: S4 and S5 are interchangeable.

Side moldings: The S5 bumper moldings will not match your S4 moldings with the rest of the car. If you don't mind the mismatch, then it won't matter. If you do mind, start looking to buy a whole set and a S5 rear bumper.
