S5 FD Apexi Power FC install update
A few months ago we installed an FD Power FC in our 13b-re Vert.
We have updated the "how to", it now it includes:
Complete FD igniter install instructions
E-fan relay for PFC temp control
PS2 cable install
The wiring diagram and instructions have all been updated, the new link is:

great writeup. what's the advantage of using the FD ignitor compared to stock FC coil packs? I'm assuming it's necessary when adapting the FD PFC compared to using the AP version?

You keep the stock coil packs, the FD ignitor is needed to fire the T2 coil. The FD PFC does not have the switching wiring for the trailing coils, so without the FD igniter it only fires the leading coil and the T1 coil.

Actually there is one RP (rx7.com) sells one for $149, that is for exactly that purpose. It would still require the wires to be changed on the adapter harness, but you could leave the stock one alone at the ECU end. I am positive there is one of these available for the FD, I just need to find it. Then the need to source connector #2 will be eliminated.
EDIT: I found a source for the FD patch harness ($159) http://www.autosportwiring.com/products.htm#Mazda

thats pretty cool
i was actually thinking at one point of seeing if i could make on
get a FC ECU and remove the connectors - get a FD ECU connector ( from the loom ) and then try and solder all the wires between them
not sure if its actually do-able though ???

i have just emailed the company to see if they can actually make the harness with the wires already swapped
i know that NO ONE in the UK does them - so gonna see what they say
i could package it together with all the parts and then sell it as a "Apexi Adpator Kit"
i would love a Apexi Ecu in the FC - they look really really really cool
will it still show you injuector duty and stuff like that ??

We (Banzai Racing & Autosports) are working on an adapter kit now. It should be available in the next week or so. It will eliminate the need to change any wires at the ECU. The FD igniter will still need to be installed. This will allow people to go back to the stock configuration much easier. You will be able to buy it through us and receive tech support on the install.
We are also going to see about making one for the S4.
The commander reads out everything , injector duty, boost, water temp, intake temp, knock, etc.

We will have all those numbers shortly, we are trying to keep it as affordable as possible.
I was not going to mention it until we had it ready to release.

been reading up and your site - and its doesnt look toooo bad to do
will it run on a base map - or does it need to be tuned ASAP ?

It has to be tuned right away, but that will be one of the perks of buying the adapter harness, we will supply a new base map that will allow the car to be driven. It is not too bad but there are people that do not feel comfortable changing the wiring, this is why we are going to offer a plug-n-play harness kit, including the GM map sensor adapter
Unholy- take a look at the wiring diagram

The install is virtually the same. Power FC, FD igniter, FD intake air temp, GM 3 bar map sensor, it just has a different wiring configuration and some of the options like the twin scoll are not available. Anyone installing the Power Fc most likely has modified the car to point where the twin scoll has been removed.

hummm when you say tuned right away - i take it that you mean that you can atleast drive it to a tuner and not drive round for 5000 miles before hand ?
removed twin scroll - eerrrrr still got mine in ( i think !! ) in my S5 TII

There is no twin scoll in an S5, mazda eliminated it. On the S5 it keeps everything operational, but you get to pitch the AFM and factory boost sensor. You can choose to keep or remove the OMP, if removed it does not throw any codes and no limp mode.
