S5 convertible stereo install - wanted to add to the archive but couldn't

To add to the thread:

I used a Scosche wire harness from www.sonicelectronix.com on a 1990 Mazda Rx-7 convertible installing my new Pioneer DEHP-6300UB. Which I got from them, great deal. Beat Wal fart by 40 bucks and no tax, free kit and wire harness with free shipping. Even tho they suck for our cars, better than nothing. Opt for the Metra install kit too, its way better. Looks more factory

The harness may work good for other cars, but on my car it was wrong. The remote on for the factory amps was on the wrong plug. It is suppose to be on the larger plug at pin 10 (Brown/Red wire from the car). Where the remote wire was it went to 12V constant (blue/white) from the car. This kept my radio powered up all the time. I'm glad Pioneer has the remote trigger monitored and diode isolated from stupidity like that or Id been getting a new radio. Also one of the crimp terminals was bent a little, when plugged the connector in, it tried to bend the pin. Just look out for that. Im a old veteran car stereo installer with 14 years experience, and this is one of the worst connectors I have seen. Just remember to specify you'd like a Metra wire harness, you'll probally be happier.

Also to further add: The headrest amplifier (mounted passenger side lower dash) Is not low level RCA, it is low speaker level. An aftermarket high powered head unit is WAY TOO MUCH INPUT, it was whopping real bad on the bass notes. The plugs at the amp are mates, just unplug both plugs and connect them together, this will bypass the amp. The speakers are no longer crossed over as subs, but play full range. which sounds better anyway on a small speaker that play much bass anyway.

You also don't have to wire a relay for the power antenna. You can actually move a couple pins around at the factory relay and make it positive trigger. But the relay at the head unit is easier, just I think its simpler having only one relay to do the job.

Good luck!
