TX S5 clutch pedal sticking (searched)

My clutch pedal on my 89 GTU random sticks in the down position. Not cool.

I figured 20 year old car, and I have money, (unusual that) I will go ahead and replace everything.

Parts replaced:
-Master cylinder (Autopartswarehouse.com)
-Slave cylinder
-SS hydrualic line
-New clutch, pilot bearing, throwout bearing,
-Dissassembled the entire clutch pedal assm and greased it with C105 lube
-Adjusted the pedal assist spring
-Adjusted the actuating rod

I have a vacuum operated bleeder and seem to know how to use it.

Clutch pedal still randomly sticks. I dissassembled the new master cylinder and noticed that it does not have a "one way piston" (per FSM) in the area the the clutch hydraulic line goes into it. There is a 23mm plug that comes out of the MC This space is suppossed to have a spring and a piston in it. I cannot find anything else wrong.

Help!!

Is the SS line a brand name? I bought an ebay one and it wouldnt seal enough. Put the rubber one back on and it worked great.

Another thing to think about is did you bench-bleed the MC? Always a good idea with new, virgin MCs. If you didnt, you might use your MityVac in pressurized mode to push fluid backwards from the slave to the master. Gravity will be your friend here in getting any air out.

Good luck and just be thankful this is in RX7 and not an MR2!

Thanks for the info. i did not bench bleed the MC. i will try that now that it is off.

I will also check to see where I bought the SS line. I does not appear to have any problems, but I guess anything is possible...

My SS line leaked at the junction to the hardline that comes out of the MC. It's really subtle because it can suck air without really leaking much fluid.

I had a hell of a time getting the clutch bled. I didnt know about bench bleeding. One thing that I recall helping a lot was I used a ratchet strap to fully disengage the clutch. That allows the slave rod to extend. That seemed to allow the air to come out when I bled it.

Again thanks for the information. I threw out the old hose, so i can;t put it back on, but I do have a 96 Miata I can rob the hose from it and try it out.

Now if I could get off work at a decent hour......

After I replaced my slave cylinder, adjusted the linkage under t he dash...it turned out to be the rubber hose running along the firewall above the master cylinder. It was swelling under pressure thus lowering the pressure just enough to cause sticking of the pedal. Mazda trix has em and the ship fast.
