S5 Clock/Intrument Cluster Mod Question
S5 Clock/Intrument Cluster Mod Question
I'm attempting to remove my clock from my instrument cluster. I'm going to change it to an A/F guage. Anyways my question is about removing the clock from the cluster.
Here is the instrument cluster taken apart (for reference). If you have ever fixed the cold solder in here then this should be familiar.

Here is my question:

If I do this to my board will the warning lights still operate normally? They appear to be seperate other than being attached to the bottom board. Thought someone might have some insight.

There are four wires that go to the clock. Not sure why it requires two straps to do it but there is a total of four wires connected to the clock. They are Black, L/R, L/B and R/B. These wires first go into the plug that fastens to the back of the idiot light unit and these four wires probably need to be cut and taped off before they run into the back of the plug so as to not ground out against anything for some of them (as in three of them) will have voltage on them.
Thanks Satch. I figured the 4 wires would be 12v, ground, acc, and illumination.
I answered my own question (cut the board apart, desoldered the 4 wires), and just metered out an acc and ground. It's coming along pretty good. I might do a write up when I'm finished.
Here are some pictures of my progress so far.

Update: Killed my digital meter, ordered 2 more. It looked good before I shorted it out, so I purchased a spare to use for a voltage meter.
O'well it'll give me a few days to install the LC-1.
Updates to come............
