S5 6 Port Turbo Recommendations
Ok guys after much research all I'm coming up with are people trying to build crazy HP 6PT cars. I'm not bashing, it's just not for me. I want to run a fairly stock setup on low/factory boost.
Parts I currently have or plan to purchase:
S4 manifold-owned
S4 turbo-owned
S4 TMI-owned
S5 J-spec UIM/LIM-owned
S5 J-spec Fuel Rails-owned
AEM Wideband-owned
Stock TII Inj-PTP
Walboro 255-PTP
Megasquirt MS3/MS3x-PTP
My questions are, what am I missing or is there anything that needs to be changed(I already have a full exhaust, Apexi GT-spec to be exact) to run 5/6 psi on my S5? The flapper door is missing out of my turbo manifold, is that a problem? Should I run water/meth inj? Do I need the TII boost pressure sensor? Is there anything special that needs to be block/connected on the S5 J-spec UIM/LIM? Do I need a TII front cover? Do I need to remove the aux port sleeves?
I know its a lot but no one seems to be running just a stock TII setup on NA 7s. I don't want to undergo a TII swap because once this motor goes I'll be looking for a 13b-RE.
There is also no one and I mean NO ONE in the area with knowledge on turboing 6 ports. East Tennessee is known for V8 swaps and dirt track so I need you guys to point me in the right direction. I have zero local knowledge for this project

Thanks for the help guys, I'm very familiar with Aaron Cakes 6PT car, but that's a bit overkill for me lol. I figured since I was the Megasquirt that I wouldnt need the pressure sensor. I'll go check the archives though.........that never crossed my mind lol.

Im in the process of a turbocharging a 6 port s4 with the stock turbo and manifold. Pretty much planning on port matching t2 manifold, installing 550cc t2 injectors, and controlling them with a safc-2. Im basically trying to do it as low cost as possible. Only gonna be able to run 5-6lbs but it will be fun none the less.
I dont think youll need the turbo front cover. Also might want to get your wastegate door fixed on your manifold. As far as the port sleeves i have yet to figure that one out myself

6psi is fun. Guess I'm only saying this cause it's my first turbo vehicle, but being that I'm driving a stock 13bt S4, it's fun as hell. Good luck with the build. Btw, if you're going to use a standalone ecu, you could up the injectors some. And idk if you have this on your list of things to get but an electronic or manual boost controller may come in handy.

The thing with the TII front cover is for the oil drain. I hear that running a drain to the oil pan is a bad idea because the oil return will back up to the turbo and cause it to fill with oil and burn up. The wastegate isn't the problem it's the flapper door in the manifold,the "twin scroll" design for the S4 used for quicker spool, the wastegate door is fine and will be ported to prevent boost creep. I already use an SAFCII on my NA, but I'm going standalone for Ignition/Fuel maps, I hear the NA cars can be pretty finicky under boost. I think I'll go ahead and take the port sleeves out, from what I hear it can't hurt.

I'd chuck that s4 turbo and go s5.
Tap the oil pan for a drain,and then use a Oil pedestal mount to gain access to the oil pressure to feed the turbo.

The engine is still intact and running in the car, I have a few more drift events before the seasons up and I start my turbo build. I found a TII front cover for cheap and I hear that tapping the oil pan is bad since the motor doesn't use oil from the pan as quickly as a piston motor thus causing a back up and burning up the turbo, but I hear things all the time that turn out to be false.

Lol that's what I'm afraid of. But I just want stock boost for now, once this motor goes I'll be doing a 13B-RE swap, then I can go play lol. The car does really good for an S5 NA as it is I just need a little more ***.

I want to keep the S4 turbo for 2 reasons. 1 being that I got the turbo/manifold/Intercooled for $100. 2 the S4 stock turbo runs lower boost on wastegate spring compared to a stock S5 turbo. The oil pan drain still scares me lol. I planned on using a pedestal mount for the oil feed, but does anyone know how to run the coolant lines since stock turbos are oil/water cooled?

you can grab coolant from the rear iron nipple above the exhaust. look at my thread in the built section. I am doing practically the same thing you are doing, except more power...if you have any questions PM me!
P.S. you also need a MS harness unless you plan on assembling it yourself, along with power wire goign to and from the ECU (as well as a 12 or 14 gauge spool of red and black for the extra wires that need run. you need a pair of relays for the fuel pump and master "on", you need a fuse panel, vacuum hose to run to the ECU, electrical tape to wrap your harness and wires, a soldering iron, downpipe (wasnt listed in post), megasquirt stim (seriously...a life saver), weather pack connectors as well as the associated tool. its all the little **** that nickle and dimes you to death.

^ Yes. The wastegate springs are the same. An S5 turbo has much better low-end spool due to the fully divided manifold. This will be especially true if someone has removed the twin-scroll flap on the S4 turbo in question. If you're removing the 6PI setup (making it functional would be difficult), every bit of low-end will help. A 6-port setup doesn't exactly have great air speed velocity at low RPM.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll be sending a few questions your way when I start this project. I had already accounted for the ms harness and small ****, I didn't post it in my original post because it would have taken too long lol. I didn't figure on the stim because I'm gonna buy it assembled, should I get it anyways? I thought about wiring my fuel pump to a switch instead of the Megasquirt, good idea or no? Where did you run your coolant return?
https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread.../#post11162758 that is where i got coolant from, there was another nipple on the back of the waterpump housing that i attached the other hose to. You have to read to see if the MS3 requires any modifications. it is always good to have a stim to verify everything is working. Its better to test it safe, than try it in the car and have it blow up...cheap insurance.

You should be able to swap a water pump housing from a turbo onto it, that has a coolant return nipple on it. I just did the opposite since my T70 is oil only and I didn't want an unused capped off nipple hanging around my engine bay. I have an S4 though, S5 may or may not be different.
