Smile S4 Vs S5

I'm still searching for a good Turbo rx-7. I've been looking for a Nice Series 5 Turbo, but there isn't any around. I've noticed that the series 4 Turbo is around 180hp and the Series 5 Turbo is around 200hp. I know its only a small difference but is it noticable ? So should I hold out for an Series 5 Turbo or boarden my search to include Series 4 Turbo ? Is there really much difference between the two models ?

The S4 is lighter, so performance is pretty similar.

It's more about mileage, condition, availability, & price.

If you can find an S4 or an S5 in good condition, buy it. If you find a nice S4, don't waste your time looking for an S5 in the same condition - you'll never find one. Your goal here should be just to find a low mile RX7, don't worry about the series.

The main difference are the looks and price and availability.

The S4 is way cheaper and easier to find.

However, the S5 does have a better turbo and (imo) looks a bit better with its body colored moldings and updated front bumper and taillights.

Your butt dyno most likely wont be able to feel a difference between the 2 cars

The performance on an S4 vs S5 is the same with the same mods. I don't see alot of advantages other than side plates on S4 motors not being to withstand as much hp as an S5, but many have proven that theory wrong... I have a friend from PR that runs 9's with ported S4 motor and T72....Its all in the building of the motor and driveline..

Here's a good question? Do you just want any RX-7 Turbo? If yes, then get whatever comes first. If you really want a S5, then get a S5, because you will never be satisfied. I for one, cannot take the S4 look, cuzz it looks old. A lot of people wont even care to know what your S4 is. The S5 is the one that make heads turn. I had my S5 compared to someones S4, and they jus talked **** about how the S4 looked ugly and old, while they were saying mine is the ****. Well, everyone has their opinion, but I can gurantee that 75% would pick S5 over S4.

My 86 is 18 years old. A 90 is 14 years old. Now which one is younger and which is older. Let's hear it for ruthless's math skills .

ask a S4 owner which year is the best and he will say 'S4' ask a S5 owner the same question and you will hear 'S5'.

Just know this: Grass roots motorsport recomended an S5 over the S4 (N/A cars) because it has more power and the weight difference was less then 40lbs.

The S5's have better electronics, too. S4's have bad soldering on the ECM; and flooding problems which are very rare in the S5's.

you also get the nicer radio surround, and all the bodywork like the better nose cone and tail lights that all the S4 guys pay big money to put on there cars.

S5's also dont have vaccum powered 5th/6th port actuators, so your free to do anything you want to the exhaust with out having to deal with those ports not opening.
