actually almost all the interior plastic parts are the same plastic and shape (or very simular shapes) with the exception of the S5 stereo surround.

But all the other parts are really the same plastic and in many cases the same P/N.

and the thicker **** style carpet was only found on the GXL, Turbo and 88 'vert & GTU models.

s4 all the way!! And not just cuz i own one either!
Well yeah maybe it is. But come on now why do ppl make such a distinction i mean there all FC's in my view. The diffrences are so minor plus we all mod the living crap outa them anyway so what does it matter? I got a s4 cuz thats all i could find at the time! In the end there going to be just as fast or at least extremly close and just as fun as an Rx7 can be.

I have had both S4 & S5 NA's.
The S5's VDI rocks.
The S5's RPM sensing power steering sucks.
With basic exhaust & intake mods the S5 will run with the stock S4 turbos.

What is the rpm sensing power steering and how does it suck? I am assuming all s5's with power steering have the same type.

The 89 GXL all the S5 Turbos used the vehicle speed sensing steering, while all the rest of the S5 cars used engine or RPM sensing steering.

The Vehicle speed sensing steering is more linear with its boost, with no boost above 40-45 MPH, and max boost below 10 MPH.

While the engine speed boost, is much cheaper and simpler, to make. Boost is simply based on engine RPM except for in 5th gear. An example of this is if you dump the RPMs at 2nd gear suddenly the steering boost changes. Most drivers don't notice, but anyone that has driven a non-power steering car or a Vehicle speed sensing steering will notice the difference pretty quickly with some spirited driving. Engine speed sensing steering is often found on more economy based cars rather than sports cars.

Wow, I never knew that! I found it weird that my Turbo has thick carpet but my parts car (sport model I think) had relatively flat carpet.

Actually I have sidelined my heavy-weight 86GXl in favor of the non-sunroof equpped base. Less Weight is good!
