s4 Vert Amp Removal for running full range
hey, was just checking out the FSM and i see that the door woofer amp makes just bass come out of the doors. I want to run fullrange there, anybody done this, Im thinking some 6.5's full range speakers in the doors would be good. Question is, how do i go about disconecting the amp and wiring directly to the head unit. Is this what i would want to do to run a good full range setup??? please help, the base is killin the new 5.25 Fosgates i replaced the stock speakers with.
how do i get at all these wires to run right of the deck, also ive got the stock oldie pioneer h/u wich i plan to keep, anyone know if i can run the speakers right off of it? thanks, i kow, noob but gotta learn sometime.

I'm not exactly sure whether the low-pass filtering is done in the head unit or amp, but either way I don't think this isn't going to work with the stock head unit. If the amp does the filtering and you bypass it you'll have no volume. If the head unit does the filtering you can't change this.
The best thing you can do is chuck that old dinosaur in the bin and buy a decent head unit.

The crossover is built into the amp (located right behind the driver's dash speaker). The speaker wires coming out of the amp use the standard Mazda Rear speaker plug layout.
You could run it off the deck, but as I recall there is no high level rear speaker out off the stock radio.
In addition running the door speakers full range really gives you a poor sound stage.

soundstage
yeah but my soundstage sucks **** right now!! HAving replaced all my stock speakers with new rockford fosgates i am more than pissed at the soundquality. What the ****, how do people get descent sound in their verts without yanking the h/u or spending tons of cash on amps, subs and custom installs.?
this is ridiculous, im getting pissed.
SO......... if i put 6.5"'s in the stock location in the doors they will just emit lotts of bass, probbaly more than they can handle with the eq at normal, cant i just throw some speakers somewhere that have good highs and lows all in one. man, i replaced the rear speakers in my old 88' 929 with 2 6.5" pioneers ( splice job ) and the sound was great, way better than this piece of **** rx7 that was supposed to have come with this wonderful " stereo upgrade" option.
im pissed.

The FC3C is difficult to get great sound in, that is why Mazda made the head rest speakers. The other thing to remember the stock system was state of the art back in 88... 15 years ago. A lot has changed in 15 years.
What seems to work the best, is a mid-range/woofer in the door (it'll take a 150mm- or true 6 inch speaker- often called a 6 1/2 inch by many japanese companies) and a decent 4 or 4 1/2 inch co-axial speaker in the dash. Followed with either a rear subwoofer or rear woofers. (One of these days I need to dust off my sub woofer fiberglass enclosure mould for the 'verts and make a couple more).
But you want to avoid any speaker that reproduces above 3K hz in the doors. Sometimes this means just cutting the tweeter wires to a co-ax used in the door location.
