S4 Turbo starts then dies**

Heres the scoop... 87 turbo, jspec motor, exhaust, intake, knightsports FCD... car was running fine for months...

Was driving the car, hit 6000rpm under boost in 1st gear and the car hiccupped and had about half power after that... came home, pulled the plugs out, compression sounded good... the car now starts up (sometimes) but will run horribly for a minute or so and then shut off... the only way to get it started is to push start it... and even that doesnt work sometimes... im at a loss because i want to sell the car and i wont be able to get near what i want for it with it running as it is... im pretty positive it is something really stupid or im just missing something.... i appreciate your help... thanks, Jordan

Do a real compression test. Sounds like you popped your motor.

when you crank it, does it sound consistant? if it doesnt its time to yank that motor out.
could be a busted vacuum line or some sort of major leak somewhere.

YUp sounds like a blown motor or a fairly large vac leak. Check your ic pipes and your ic. Is it very rough when it idles and can you rev it up? When you rev it up does it sound different?

well, you should have done fuel mods a while ago.

Either a vacuum leak (popped off) or you blew it.

i had a similair prob and just fixed it. alot of people jump to conclusions and first off say "oh blew my motor". but i think these motors are pretty resiliant. but my prob was my thermo sensor wasn't registering so it was running way rich and fouling my plugs. secondly the tps was way off like 300 ohms not the 1k it was supposed to be. i would set it and then it would drop again. found out the spring putting pressure on the screw was weak and not putting pressure on anymore. i stretched it put it back in and no problems after that.

alright....

ill borrow my friends compression tester... but by ear it sounded as though it was good... ive never heard of a TPS going suddenly bad like it would have to to cause my current problem... blown motor was obviously my first thought as i was overboosting and had no way of controlling fuel or boost... i had the car running rich because of that, so my plugs do go bad quick, but i just bought new NGK last Sunday... i also noticed a good size crack in the TID right where it goes on the turbo, i did my best with electrical tape to repair it but i doubt it will be the same... im 18 and dont really have enough money for a new motor, and besides im trying to sell the car anyways... thanks again, Jordan
