s4 Turbo drivetrain into a s5 GXL?
I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with transplantion an s4 drivetrain into an s5? Im now thinking about puting my complete s4 TII drivetrain into my s5 gxl. Is this easy to do or Im I going to run into alot of mounting problems. I have a real good running TII now that the body needs a little bit of work and an S5 gxl that looks like new, but needs engine work and a new tranny.
Basically I was just wondering peoples opinion on the problem factors in doing this type of swap and really if its even smart for me to mess with this TII since its running so good right now.
Thanks,
Tomm

I did that same conversion in '98....no probs from what I remember. I did a 88 Turbo II block, Transmission, driveshaft, and LSD rear end. Everything bolted right on. Still working today.

S4 engine in a S5 car is a major pain in the *** for wiring, as well as has other issues such as MOP and front cover and is generally not ever recommended.
Why don't you just get the right engine for the series of your car?
And this has been covered countless times, please read the FAQ for Fc sticky thread at the top of this section as it covers this. Give me a reason not to close this thread, as what you are asking has been asked and answered so many times.

I have a complete s4 turvo donor car running with no problems so I figured doing the swap
was going to be easy as for as electrical. I just needed to know if there was going to be any mounting problems I might come across.
I did do a search and did read the sticky. I read plenty of turbo conversion threads, but they were all covering s5 turbo engines into s5 na cars (not my situation).
Thank you for the help though,

i just did a s5 na to s4 t2 swap this march......... EVERY wire had to be swapped!! from the front of the car to the rear!!! the instrument clusters are different, as are the ignition, and all relays!! you dont know how many wires are in a car until you have to pull them out!!! keep in mind, i mean every wire in the car! the door wires have to be pulled (which is hell!! that tar is a bitch to get off your hands), all wires under the carpet, in the headliner......... just enlightening you!
but on the brighter side, it can be done! like i said, i acomplished this ealier this year!! so, i thought you ought to know what was involved w/ the electrical... if your still up for it, good luck!!

Every other part is difficult and is NOT plug and play.

If so then Ill go ahead and try it myself.
How long did it take to complete yours? I have a friend that owns a shop and has rewired many car helping me so if there is no mounting issues I should have no problem.

YES! S4 drivetrain into S5 body. It took about a day to remove and remount everything...the hardest is the LSD rear end...its heavy and awkward, easier on a lift than under the car on a jack. Everything else just sorta falls into place.
I used a Haltech ECU so I had to rewire nothing.
