Couldn't seem to find it in a search, and mazdatrix's website didn't seem to answer my question directly, but I figured I'd ask here.

I've got a 1990 GXL with an s5 motor and trans (n/a 6 port, 5 speed) and the trans is about dead. It's tired. I've found a great deal on a 1988 (n/a, s4) 5 speed guaranteed good, but I'm not sure whether or not it will work for me. Are there any issues with crossmembers/mounts/wiring that would pop up? Anyone with experience want to chime in here? If i just skimmed over it in the search, if someone would point me in the right direction, that'd be awesome. Thanks so much guys.

 

If you get the cross member and mounts with it it should bolt right in. You may need to figure out some rewiring for the various switches though. The two variations had different cross members (what the trany mounts bolt to).
