S4 tranny in an S5?

Looks like I'm going to have to replace my transmission soon..

I was wondering if you can easily put an S4 transmission into an S5, if the wiring is significantly different, etc.. If anyone has done this and could offer some useful advice I would appreciate it!

I put an s5 T2 auto on my s4 NA auto and its just a straight-forward swap. There is one pipe on the s5 box that we had to block off, as I have no idea what it does or where its meant to go. other than that I havent had any problems with it in 18 months.

I dont see why an s4 wont fit an s5. the capacities and gear ratios are a little different, but its basically the same.

Get it done at a workshop that specialises in gearboxes. Its a bit pricey, but they do an excellent job and have all the right tools.

You'll need the S4 crossmember to go with the S4 trans.

if you are talking the 5spds there is no problem at all. note the gearing on a S4 is just slightly different more geared towards acceleration rather then top end and this will cause your MPG to take a small hit.

If you look at the specs, the N/A trans ratios are the same between series, and the Turbo is the same except for the 5th gear change in S5 to .719 from .762. Also the S4 vert has a .711 5th gear.

Well, thanks for the info everyone. Hopefully I can now get a transmission lined up without too much difficulty.

For the record, I have a 5spd s5 t2 with a JDM engine swap.

The other thing that concerned me was the possibility of the wiring harness causing some funky problems like it did when the engine was put in.

Sure I'm just paranoid though.
