S4 tps resistance range

what is the resistance range for a S4 tps, I read some where that it should be from <1k-5k ohms, well I have about a handfull of S4 tps that test with in that range.. but have two that only go up to 4.5k an another to 4.7k ohms. Are those other two still good? Or are they shot?

I searched but only found how to adjust it.. Not what I was looking for.

They should read 5k plus or minus 1k . they are still good. Mine reads 4.7k WOT and has a smooth throttle.

When brand new, they test about 4.5k to 4.7k ohms - so those are in very good shape!

When the age, the resistance gets higher. I find any TPS approaching 6.0k-ohms no good and induce hesitations at high RPM's. So as long as the full travel resistance is under 6.0k-ohm, it should be okay to use.

Ted, do you know why the S4 TPS affects high-rpm operation? It seems unusual given that the ECU really only uses it to see when the throttle's closed.

Yeah, you would think it would have nothing to do with it, but I've seen two TPS problems due to the overly high resistance cause high RPM hesitations.

RETed's right about the high-rpm hesitation. I had that exact problem. TPS would read about 6.8K at WOT, and I would get hesitation at about 5.5K rpm. It would just stop accelerating completely.

I replaced the TPS with a good unit 5K ohms at WOT, and it fixed the problem. This was the only variable changed.

I'd be curious to know why this is the case though?

With mine TPS it was the _transition_ from low to high throttle that was bad. The two normal tests are sitting at no throttle and sitting at high throttle. Mine passed both tests. As I slowly transistioned the throttle from low to high it jumped extremely irracdically. I replaced it and the problem was solved.
