S4 TII Conversion no spark from coil
S4 TII Conversion no spark from coil
A friend swapped a S5 JSPEC into his 86 base model. He tried to start the car and is not getting any spark for the leading coil. He is getting 12V to the coils but nothing out. Doesn't the ECU control the spark? What do I need to check?

If he has 12v at the lead coil, then it follows he has the Main Relay in place and working, , but you should go to the ECU and look at the small plug. See if you are getting 12v at 3I. Then if you get it at the injector plugs 3E, 3F, 3H,3C (Not as important as 3I).
IF 3I is good, then you should make sure you installed the ECU's ground terminal that is located on top of the rear rotor housing. It's a ring terminal that gets bolted down. I'm not talking that ridiculous wire from the wiper area to the engine. This gound is under the throttle body. You can check it by going to the ECU and removing the small plug and seeing if you have under 1ohm on pin 3A, 3G and if you remove the middle plug pin 2R. Use the ECU studs for a chassis ground for the meter.
Another good angle before doing the above is to pull the boost sensors connector off and seeing if you have approx 4-5vdc on the brown/white wire with the key to ON. NO 4volts means you have a problem that will result in no spark.
CAS is connected up???? Right?? Say yes.
If your halfway good, remove the cas but leave the plug on it. Lay the lead coil wires just on top of the coil bores. Turn the key to ON. Spin the cas gear rapidly. There should be a large spark from the coils to the wires. IF that happens disregard everything above because you DO have spark and this post is a mistake.
Your using the series four afm and harness, right????
