Okay, maybe I will go check this car out since he is going to be close to my house this weekend.
Here is some info on the car so I need your guyses opinion. The car is an 89 GXl with one owner. "Only 70,000 original miles, with ALL service records from day 1. White with blue interior. New paint Sep 04. Pristine body, interior. AC, PS, Tilt wheel, cruise, you name it." Even has the original brochure. The interior is very clean, seats are nice, paint job looks great. He said there is a little rust on the windsheald whiper and some on the door trim. There might be more that he can't see because of the repaint.
He's asking $4,200 which I think is a little high. If I can get the price down maybe to $3,800 do you guys think It would be worth it?
The only thing i'm still a little weary on is the tail lights.
Is their anything on the car I can look for to make sure it's an S5 GXL other than the decal on the side of the car?

According to your description of the car, I'd not care about tail lights if the motor has good compression, you don't feel nothing wrong with the transmission and all electric stuff works. Good luck!

 

Well Iceman said the tail lights were from the 88 10th AE and the owner says the paint job before this white one was also a noble white. The pics of the engine bay show no sign of an intercooler and their is no hoodscoop so I doubt it's a turbo. Didn't the 10TH AE only come with turbo engines?
Has anyone ever heard of Mazda putting an NA engine into a 10TH AE by mistake?

I think the exception to this is gold. I think the gold ones look better with a little black around on them. Esp the trim. Don't think I'd like it as pure gold.

$4,200 is REALLY high for an NA FC, even if it is in really good condition. i have seen some decent TII's go for under that.

 

When I think of RX7 I think of smoked and round tail lights. I guess that's probably because of the third gens, but I'd like that on my second gen too. It's just that the S5 tails are so expensive.

Has anyone ever seen smoked S4 tails, or a cover that will make them flat?

I got mine for $2,800 and it was as mint as could be with a brand new paint job and everything, yes it was a s5, and it had the stock rims at the time.
