CA S4 shifter in S5 tranny?

Hey everyone,

I just got my tranny swapped and clutch done bled everything. Now, for some reason, I can't get my s4 shifter into the s5 tranny? Are they not compatible? I was under the impression they were. Btw, I have an 1987 rx7 turbo II.

Some help would be valuable!

Thanks!

As far as I know they are compatible, are you lining up the slot on the bottom of the shifter?

I am running a S5 short throw in my S4.

I was going to start a thread, but I may as well add on to this one:

I was reading a FS thread in the classifieds and the guy is having trouble with the mounts on his transmission. Apparantly the s4 and s5 tranny mounts are different? I'm about to go buy a series 5 N/A tranny to put into my s4 N/A in lieu of the mazdatrix T2->N/A driveshaft being so freaking expensive. I don't want to be screwed after buying it..... I was under the impression that as far as the transmissions are concerned that s4 and s5 is completely compatible, drop-in?

The transmission will drop in, but the cross member needs to match the transmission. The cross member mounts to the transmission differently.

farberio is right but with a little brain storming u can easily use the s5 trans on an s4 chassis and vice versa. also to add to the shifter note....both my FBs which are both 85 (one 12a one 13b) and both my FCs (one 86 and one 88) all the shifters work with any of trans
